Fake tan for wedding- Spray, cream or sunshowers?

freckleface30, 15 August, 2008 at 22:00 Posted on Planning 0 28

Helloooooo

Just wondering how many of you girls are having fake tans for the wedding and how you are doing it?

I must admit I have been having sunshowers for the past 3 months even though I always refused to do it, but the result is lovely and I am only doing it until the wedding... Dangerous and daft I know and my h2b tells me off and so does my daughter ..... I have tried numerous fake tans and I always look orange and fake where as the sunshowers build up a gorgeous colour gradually.

What are the spray tans like and if i was to exfoliate and have one done a week before the wedding would I end up with the colour on my dress?

Vicks x

Hi, Im a massive fake tan fan, I havent been on the sun beds/showers for about 5years, but however just come back from hol with a nice colour, which is fading fast, get married in 6mths and am going to have a few sun showers, as you I dont want the risk of fake tan on my dress, or streaky, its a one off occassion in my opinion, so I am not going to feel too guility, nor should you in my opinion?

If you use a lotion one it shouldn't come off on your clothes but a spray tan one will. Always remember to exfoliate and moisturise really well before applying your fake tan to avoid streaking and get someone to help you with the bits you can't reach. It's always best to apply the product in circles too to avaoid streaks as well. Might help if you use one that has some colour in it so you can see where you've applied it (Virgin Vie's does ?).

I've never heard it called a sunshower before - it's really cute! We just always call them stand-up sunbeds!

I use sunbeds for 3mins every couple of weeks as I am far too lazy to use fake tan. I've had professional ones done a few times, tried all different types and have never found a colour that looks natural on me.

I'll probably have a few extra sunbeds in the months up to the wedding to build up a stronger colour then lay off them for a few months after to give my skin a break.

I have vowed that I will stop having them after the wedding... though its quite adictive and I do like my colour... normally I look like flippin Snow White.

Will be nice to go on my honey moon with a base colour too without looking lilly white on the beach lol

    Hi freckles,

I'm going to have a fake spray tan. Am having a practice next week for my hen do but I've had a couple before and have found that as long as you have 3 good showers before you want it, the colour has come off enough that it shouldn't come off on your clothes... you just have to stay in the shower until the water runs clean.

Am rubbish with the ones that gradually build up, can't stand the smell

Last time I went on a sun bed, I burnt myself! Am too pale and moley to risk them I'm afraid after giving myself superficial burns in Blackpool this June ? probably woul do otherwise though!

    Hiya hon

Do the spray tans not make you look a little on the orange side or are there different shades of colour that you can go???

Perhaps I Might try one out for my hen night and see.

I think im going to go for a few sessions on the sunbed... I NEVER do...but for my wedding it will be great...

It will save alot of time

    It wont smell

It wont rub off on dress

    It wont be streaky

    It will look natural

I will never go on them after the weddin though and i think i may go on the lie down one and turn the face panel off because i dont want wrinkles lol...i like to keep my face well protected

I don't use sunbeds generally...but in the run up to the wedding I have been doing. I'm having a spray tan done on the Monday before (wedding on the Thurs) but I know it will prob be mostly off (the day before me and H2B are booked in at a day spa for mud bath, facial and body massage!!), but I decided that I'd rather be paler than have my tan rub off on my dress!!!!

I can't say I've noticed that much difference from the sunbed (I'm normally the milky bar kid!) , but at least it gives my skin a bit of "warning" before honeymoon!!! Smiley smile

The smell you get from fake tans is the product reacting to the amino acids in your skin and this is waht gives you the colour so depending on how much amino acid you have depends on how smelly the product is and how much the colour develops as well as on the product itself.

The spray tans can make me look a bit orange. The first one I had was some sort of tan that works with the pigment in the skin so didn't leave me orange but the last one \i had for a friends didn't work like that so was a bit orangey.

I've just booked in a "fake bake" for friday for my hen do on sat so I'll let you know if it goes orange or not Smiley smile

Just added up the cost of all the beauty treatments I need in the run up to the wedding... without hair and make up and I had to sit down quickly!!! What a nightmare!

The thing I always notice about fake tans is how Orange they look when I'm processing the wedding pictures, it leaves me with three choices, leave the bride the simpson colour she really is and have everybody else looking healthy, adust the colour so the brides skin looks like a human beings and make everybody elses a little off or go for a blend somewhere in the middle.

It's not too bad when all the girls have it and all stand next to each other, but in the groups when there is the bride with non tanning family it can be very noticable.

So would you say not to have one then? I've booked in for a trial to see how orange I go, should I take pics of me next to a pale person and see how orange it makes me look???

That sounds sensible yes! I think with the way are eyes work something can look good in isolation, but next to something right we tend to pick out differences a lot easier.

I'm just going for pale natural me! I want to look like me in my wedding pics so as someone who rarely never tans (despite being half spanish) I'm staying white the the wedding! My mum lives in Spain so she'll be very tanned from the summer so I'll probably be attacking her with flour to make her look a bit paler!

I am having a St Tropez spray tan the day before the wedding, I had one done for my friends wedding and think it looked really nice.

It might come off on my dress a little but to be honest, no-one will see it! and its not like Im gonna be wearing it again, unless i put it on indoors for H2b!! haha

Why is it after months of sunshowers I have gone a lovely golden colour all over apart from my legs that still look horrible and pasty?

I'm having a spray tan trial on thursday, then on a week on wed i'm getting my dress.Hopefully it will have faded enough but i still have a bit of colour (i'm normally white but I now have a bit of colour on my face and lower arms. need to look abit more even) The photo's on the phone that my mum took, you don't get much definition between my decolletage and the neckline of the dress.

I think it can be tailored for you, go speak to the salon.

I'll try and post a before and after photo after I've had mine done.
