Fancy dress help!

Melancholie, 5 January, 2009 at 20:18 Posted on Planning 0 22

Going to a party on Saturday. Just realised that it's fancy dress. To quote the invitation:

The Theme is Tube Stations

Angel - come as an angel

Baker Street - Sherlock Holmes

Wimbledon - tennis player

High Barnet - Amy Winehouse

Cockfosters....well thats up to you

What would you go as? Don't want to look a twut on the tube on the way there!

Is it just limited to those stations mentioned or are they just suggestions?

    Victoria - Queen Victoria?

I'm not sure what I would go as but if there were a load of you going you wouldnt be the only silly looking one on the tube

The ones mentioned are just suggestions. It needs to be something easy as I don't have time to do loads of shopping or go hunting out a proper hired costume. AFAIK, we're the only ones travelling any distance to go!

I'd be tempted to go as Paddington unless that was too obvious

Great suggestion, but no idea where I'd get the outfit! Any suggestions?

ETA - you were too quick with your second post! I was referring to Paddington. H is going as Wembley. I don't really want to use one of the suggestions as the friend who's hosting would see that as a cop out. Like the Abba idea, but again, no idea where to get the outfit.

Sloane square - go as a sloane ranger (jeans, wellies, posh shirt, wool jumper round your shoulders, pearls, sunglasses on top of your head....)

piccadilly or oxford circus - ringmaster or clown

barking - go as a dog

grange hill - go in school uniform

you could both go as elephant and castle (H as the elephant of course.... ?)

Oooo, this could work! Think I have some pearls somewhere... Don't have any wellies, but could probably get some cheap ones in Asda or wear my brown leather knee high boots. Thanks!

No, I wasn't in it. I bought it as well because she hadn't got back to me to say yes or no and I didn't want to miss it, but they passed me over in favour of a woman who "didn't know" fat coke was bad for you and used to drink 12 cans a day, then had a gastric band operation and lost weight. H was funny. Called her either a lying tw*t or a stupid tw*t for not knowing coke was bad and said someone who had a op to lose weight didn't deserve to be in there.

Well as a fan of the Mighty Boosh, I'd have to choose Shoreditch and go dressed as Vince Noir.

Other than that, Monument could be an easyish one - dress in old clothes and spray yourself silver/grey.

Or (a bit of artistic license used here) Greenwich - or Green Witch!

Canary Wharf - dress all in yellow and make a beak.

Dress in a sexy LBD, put on your best push up-bra and some orange fake tan and go as Victoria (Beckham)

Or dress S as a shepherd and dress in green, stick on some leaves and tah-dah - you are Shepherd's Bush!

All good ideas, although some are more practical than others! I don't watch Mighty Boosh - how does Vince Noir dress? Is that the whole Shoreditch wank£r thing?

Search Google images for Vince Noir - he has so many looks it's hard to describe... but in the programme they live in Shoreditch and Vince talks about it in a few episodes, eg:

Howard Moon : Picture the scene, yeh? You're in the wilderness-
    Vince Noir: Where?
    H: Miles from anywhere
V: I've not really ever left Shoreditch
H: You've come out of Hoxton Square, you've turned left instead of right, you've gone down to that carpark behind the Dragon Bar
V: Ooh, it's horrible round there.. well Crimewatch
H: It's cold, it's frightening, it's dark, you've only got on a light summer jacket
    V: What colour?
    H: It's brown
    V: I don't think so
    H: Purple with diamonte trim
    V: OK

BTW I would drop R in a second for Noel Fielding (Vince Noir) and he knows it!

I love this idea for Fancy dress, it's so creative.

    Camden: Go as a goth/punk/emo

    Euston: astronout

All Saints: girl band and take all saint song with you ?

    Baker Street: self explanetory

    Bond Street: James Bond (related)

    Green Park: Gardner

Just go on Wikipedia to get the list of tube stations and away you go!

Here's a cheap option - wear whatever you like but buy a can of green spray string and spray it at people... Turnham Green!
