Define podgy and define long someone please?

I am, by definition, fat. Size 22. But my fingers are in proportion to me. When my nails are very short (ie have broken really low down) it makes my finger look fatter.

My nails vary between 2mm of white and 5mm of white, but then they get cut so I can type. Sometimes not my pinkie nails though as I dont use them, and they have been known to get over a cm long.

Also, the white bit of my nails doesnt start until he tip of my finger, so cutting them at the tip of my finger would mean them bleeding.

I've always had very long nails that grown fast, and so did my mum and my sister.

My nails are all brittle and crap too Hyacinth. They grow to the top of my fingers and the split at the sides. Would short acrylic nails look common? I suppose they would.

Maybe I should ask a manicurist type person. I deteste my hands but am getting married soon so I suppose there will be hand shots.

Oh yes - perhaps the ubiquitous soft focus intertwined hands drinking champagne? Or a nice close up of the ring being placed on your finger? ?

    You have me concerned now...

I have chubby hands and long nails - nails are currently about a centimetre long, depending on the finger and if i have broken one.

If i break a nail, or cut it (which is rare), then my fingers look even more chubby. I think i have too much skin for my hands (fingers look like willies, when i have no nails) ?.

I can touch type, wipe my bum (carefully!?), scratch my ears and eyes, pick my nose and take out my contact lenses with no problems at all.

My nails are real, i dont really get the fake acrylic nail look - they always look fake!? and as for french manicures on toes? i dont get that either - arent toe nails supposed to be short?

I dont paint my nails, mostly because i am too lazy and secondly because i am crap at it and too impatient to wait for them to dry.

Well, because they curve in quite a bit, not like a cat, but when I cut them, they sometimes snap or crack a bit and it hurts. They also grow faster.

That said, at the moment they are not long, and I tend to keep them all roughly the same length now, I was going back a few years.

As a soon to be nail technician I have to say to Petunia please don;t try to cut off all the white of your nail, the end bit is white because it isn't attached to the nail bed so it will bleed if you try to cut into the pink as it is attached to the skin underneath your nails

Oh I never would as that would hurt. I was simply wondering what people class as long, as mine look long but are only about 2 mm.

Petunia I class long nails as the white bits being huge compared with the rest of the nail.

My nails are attatched right to the end as well so at around 1mm of growth they are past my finger tip.
I keep them at that length although they grow like crazy. I'm forever filing them.

I hate short nails too where they have been bitten in the past and the skin has hardened at the ends so that there is no chance for the nails to grow at all.

bitten nails make me heave more than really long ones.

Dolly parton has a good example of ridiculous long nails and shirley from east enders has gross bitten short ones

I have the same thing, mine look quite long because my nail bed is quite shor. So although you can't see most of my nails over my finger tips if I look palm on, when I turn them over, because of having quite a lot of white on the tips they look long. I'm quite concious of this in class as we can fail our assessments for having too long nails

I hate long nails too - my two closest girlfriends have long nails that I always threaten to cut, and my MIL has them too - all of them have those long nails that are really thin and look like talons, and never have the nails all the same length.

My nails grow really fast but as soon as they start to 'click' on the keyboard when I type they're off!
