Favourite sandwiches

HeidiHole, 30 April, 2008 at 13:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

I sometimes think there's no nicer food than a gorgeous sandwich.

I've just had a cheese, ham, onion, tomato and baby leaf salad sandwich, on soft white crusty bread with mayo (perk of living in the cuntry, fresh bread at the local shop every day).

So, what is your favourite sandwich?

My favourite shop bought one is the Pret falafel salad one. It's truly gorgeous and this post has just reminded me I haven't had one in a while.

Homemade - probably some kind of cheese, ham, mayo, pickle concoction. Or perhaps just slabs of brie and lashings of butter in a crusty baguette. ?

Am I allowed more than one? ?

I love brie and crispy bacon on a panini with cranberry sauce and toasted so the brie melts.

Also love prawn and marie rose on white bread or crab on well buttered white bread

I'm starving now, the sandwich shop forgot to bag my sandwich so I'm waiting for a colleague to bring me something back ?

I love sandwiches. I could eat them all day every day.

    Cheese & pickle on brown
    Ham and salad on granary
Tuna sweetcorn with cucumber on a baguette
Cheese & Onion crips on brown

    I could go on....

I too adore sandwiches. I just had a big bowl of baby leaf salad, cherry tomatoes, Bavarian ham and grated cheese with vinaigrette and a granary roll for my lunch. It was ace.

I love chicken, mayo and bacon sandwiches but I haven't had one in ever such a long time. Cheese and pickled onion is another favourite.

I am also partial to a crisp sandwich. On white bread. With butter. [:I]

All the best bits of a christmas dinner, in sandwich form.

Cold turkey, maybe some gammon or a sliced sausage, some stuffing, mustard, cranberry sauce, all topped off with some chopped gherkin.

Serve with salted crisps and a pickled onion.

    I like relatively simple sandwiches.

Cheese and tomato with lots of S&P
    Roast beef and horseradish
    Ham and mustard
    Salad and mayonnaise

My mum makes egg and anchovy sandwiches which are lovely. ?

Halloumi with sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise, on toasted white bread. The halloumi has to have been out of the fridge for a while so it's not too cold, and the toast has to be hot when you put the filling in so the cheese gets just a little bit warm and squeaky.

This recipe has come about through a lot of experimentation!

id="quote">Seconded. Some really tasty cold roast beef on thinly sliced buttered white bread (not supermarket sliced bread) with a sprinkling of salt can be pure bliss.

I also rate a good mature cheddar and pickle sarnie.

Pret's superclub is a good one. As is their christmas sandwich.

Fishfinger sandwiches with plastic white bread and ketchup
    Ham and tomato

There's a bakery in broomhill in sheffield that had a fabulous sandwich filling - chicken & bacon - I don't know why theirs was so good but it was. They would do a chicken & bacon sandwich with salad - yummy!

I have just had a fabulous left-over roast pork with homemade pickle sandwich. Absolutely delicious!

I love hot roast chicken and stuffing sandwiches, and cold chicken and avocado. Roast beef, with a big pile of watercress and a smear of horseradish. Or just an eye wateringly strong cheddar with pickle. Sometimes my very lazy supper of marmite and salt and vinegar crisps, or my student special of peanut butter, lettuce and mayo... I do like sandwiches!

Currently I have a bit of an obsession with M&S chicken and bacon sandwiches with a bag of wotsits on the side.

Failing that I'll have egg and bacon instead.

For me its all about the type of bread product....different bread requires different fillings and a fave filling in, say, a wrap won't taste so good in a floury bap. For me it has to be:

Pitta - hummous, falafel & roasted veggies
Wrap - prawns, cheats marie rose sauce, avocado & watercress
Granary Doorstep - mature cheddar, pickle, mayo & tomato
White Plastic - fishfinger & ketchup
Baguette - tuna mayo & sweetcorn (and S&V crisps [:I])
Bap - roast chicken, nice leaves & lashings of mayo
Toasted - left over bolognaise and mozerella

    mmmm...sandwich

? liking the sound of the toasted one. You've thought this through haven't you? ?

There's a sandwich guy round here that does a real artery clogger, burger and breakfast with a slice of cheese in plastic bread. It's bl00dy lovely for a hangover ?

I love a toasted ham and cheese sandwich on Warburtons super toastie white bread.

Also can't beat a well done bacon sandwich on home sliced bloomer bread with butter and a very thin spread of tomato and smoky barbeque sauce.

My favourite shop-bought sandwich is no longer made (weep) but was from Asda. A honey roast salmon brioche roll with baby leaves and dill mayonnaise - yum yum yum, bring them back!!
