Favourite sandwiches

I sometimes think there's no nicer food than a gorgeous sandwich. I've just had a cheese, ham, onion, tomato and baby leaf salad sandwich, on soft white crusty bread with mayo (perk of living in the cuntry, fresh bread at the local shop every day). So, what is your favourite sandwich?

I second pika - you have to match the filling to the bread.

Grated cheese, pickled beetroot, cucumber, lettuce, spring onion and tomato with a great big dollop of salad cream

I agree wih Pikasue about the bread thing. I also really hate the soggy bread of sandwiches in packets. A sandwich well made can be a glorious thing, and they make me cry a little inside. If I am ever forced to have one (which is rare) I have to have a relatively dry filling.

Aside from that, I love sandwiches. Working in O'Brien's as a student opened my eyes to the world of really thick bread as an essential element. My absolute favourite is well seasoned egg mayo, but also good is:

Pastrami, dijon mustard, gherkins and lettuce
Brie, avocado, grape, pear and sunflower seeds
    Sausage

I love egg mayo and bacon sandwiches but got to be on brown granary bread, also love prawn sandwiches, prawn mayo is OK but Greggs' oval bites with cocktail sauce is better, I also love Greggs cheese savoury big softies on brown bread.

WHite bread I think is better for hot sandwiches eg toasties, bacon, sausages.

I am currently addicted to Bene Bene's chicken, bacon and mushroom baguettes and Kruger's satay chicken, bacon and mixed leaf bloomer sandwiches. Mmmmmmm.

I love prawn, mayo, avacado and bacon or a simple ham and cheese toastie. I could do with either (or both) of those at the moment!

I shouldn't have opened this thread, its full of things I'm not supposed to have for the time being ?

At the moment it would have to be mozzarella and tomato, with S&P and pesto. If its not toasted then a bit of salad wouldn't go amiss in there either.

Second about the bread being important though. Nice, thick crusty bread (doesn't matter what colour).

I agree about the type of bread thing too...

For a roll - Subway Meatball Marinara on Italian Cheese bread with jalapenos, gherkins, cheese and salad ?

On toast - cheese and ham with either lots of lea & perrins and ketchup, or M&S peri-peri relish.

Wrap - Feta cheese, chicken and salad with herb oil.

Thats the one in Nigel Slater's Real Food cookbook isn't it?

Always wanted to try making it but I've never gotten round to it.

My fave sandwich is crayfish, rocket and lemon mayo on granary.

    Hmm, sandwiches!

My favourite is cheese, celery and apple, with mayo on granary bread.
