I had a similar thing happen 4 Christmases ago. It was for Mr L though, so not quite as big a disaster.

Is there anyone else who could pick something up for you and get it to you without the child knowing?

Any chance Amazon sell it? They're still delivering.

The (rare) perfume I ordered for my Mum isn't coming after all, I chased it up and they said yeah it's on the way, then I got an email on Friday saying oh no it isn't. Great.

And I just opened up the boy's things and the main one, the one I know he will love, is broken.

if i order stuff super early they all change their minds

i thought i was doing ok - and anyway - ordering through a big online retailer like that they should be able to tell you it wont arrive or they dont have it in stock

if it was for one of the others it wouldnt matter so much - but with his aspie tendencies he has a really limited range of stuff he wants or would be interested in

plus we are on a tight budget so while there are things he may like it will totally blow the budget to get them

It was the 100th anniversary meccano set - which was the particular one because it has the stuff to make a crane and has a motor with it

i would settle for another big box of meccano with a motor - but it is cutting it too fine for mail order and i live in the arse end of nowhere - lol

Have you tried toys r us or Smyths?

spacecadet - that was the one i ordered but they are now saying they havent had confirmation from their agent so not charging my card ?

Could a hitcher pick it up for you from The Entertainer? There's plenty of stores around the place and I'm sure plenty of people going shopping. If there was one in Merry Hill I'd do it tomorrow. special delivery will get it to you in time.

not really - we dont have any big toy shops locally - a couple of small indies that i will call in the morning - if they have anything i can send mr j out on a sneaky break from work

any big toy shops are at least an hour away - and as i have 3 rather vile high spirited children i dont think i could dump them on anyone

the one i wanted to get him was the 100th anniversary set which had about 653 pieces a motor and you can make a crane - it was £60 i think

i am going to phone our little shops - chris thinks one of them does sell some meccano so might get lucky with a set even if it isnt the same one - the motor is the thing

Entertainer have it in stock online so no reason the shop wouldn't have one. John Lewis have a good toy dept as well and Bentalls. I'm more than happy to go and have a look for you.

I feel your pain. I had an email from Amazon today telling me the books I ordered and paid to arrive before Christmas are being dispatched between 19th January and 4th february, yet on the website it still says you can get them before christmas by choosing express delivery. Gits. I'll now be spending tomorrow morning begging other online booksellers to send them to me and paying a fortune in P&P. To top that, my NUS code for my amazon discount won;t work, the NUS are off for the holidays and Amazon told me there's nothing they can do, so no discount, and now, no books. My order contained presents for FIL, 2 BILs and a close friend. And these are not books I can pick up from the bookshop.
