Finding a venue - Devon

snow bride, 10 April, 2013 at 17:16 Posted on Planning 0 8

Well all, I'm asking for your help here!

We've pretty much decided to have a small legal ceremony in the morning and then have a blessing ceremony at our location. This now means we can have it anywhere as they don't need a lisence Smiley smile

So I'm asking for help to find that magical venue and hoping you guys can offer something different Smiley smile We've searched and searched but bet we've missed something!

Our requirements would be a place we can do the catering ourself and can sit 100 people for a meal.

Were based in Plymouth but happy to travel up to about 30-45 minutes away Smiley smile

Thanking you in advance Smiley smile

    Hi there,

    Fellow Devon Bride Smiley smile

I found this place online a while ago, but it was just too far from where we are. I think it looks just amazing, and you can get your own caterers in!

Seeing as I'm getting married with the Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat company, I have to recommend them to you!

I'm not sure if it would interest you but you could hire a boat and cruise up the River Dart Smiley smile

The Cardiff Castle is their biggest boat - You can have your own caterers and it can fit over 100 people. Or if you only end up with 85 people then you can fit on The Dart Explorer.

I know the couple that own Rumleigh Farm, it's just outside the village where I live. Keith and Annie are lovely people, really friendly. Their dogs are lovely, too - very stealable!

We're getting married at Tavistock Town Hall, you can use their in-house caterer (and they cancel the room hire fee) or you can use your own (we're using Food Dreckly, she only does local/seasonal food, which is important to us). I have a feeling I've told you this before... Smiley winking

Hey TVG - You have! We went and saw the hall and LOVE IT! Turns out the events guy is an old friend of mine, very handy!

It's our current favourite option but now that we have decided to do the legal bit in the morning we no longer need somewhere with a license, so we thought we'd see if there are any random places people know of? It seems quite easy to search for places with a license but not without!

We do need somewhere where we can cater it ourself as we're planning on making all the food ourselves Smiley smile

It is gorgeous down there. We're doing the whole 'steam train and boat wedding'. I did love the castle, but because there are only going to be 24, plus no after party, I wanted something to do, as such. I live 1 1/2 hours away so it's a bit of a trek, but well worth it Smiley smile I'll be going down early and getting hair/make up done at The Cutting Lounge in Dartmouth, then dressing at The Royal Castle Hotel and then we have to catch the passenger ferry across to Kingswear!

I've been down twice now and I love Dartmouth - especially the Rockfish fish and chip shop Smiley laugh

Are you getting married at Plymouth register office on the Hoe?

How about the Guildhall, or Plympton St Maurice Guildhall? My friends had their reception at the Davie Hall on North Hill, just behind the church.
