Findus crispy pancakes

bobbly1, 3 June, 2008 at 11:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 49

I had a "retro" moment the other day when shopping, and bought some findus cheese crispy pancakes - I've not had them since I was a child!

When it's dinner time I'm having hoops with them!!! (Gene Hunt fans should get this!)

Are there any foods from your childhood that you have tried again as an adult - were they better or worse?

Mmm, crispy pancakes... ? They were a forbidden pleasure as a child. Mum didn't buy stuff like that. I only got them at friends' houses.

I had Spam fritters last year for the first time in years. They weren't nearly as nice as I remembered them from school dinners - way too salty.

Ooh you've got me wondering what the minced beef ones are like now, if they still make them.

Yep...and it was crispy pancakes, too. H and I were discussing what we had for dinner growing up and these popped up.

My tastes must have evolved over the years...they won't be making an appearance on the shopping list again ?

I love crispy pancakes but can't find the cheese ones anywhere [:'(]

Super noodles make me want to yak now, I think its the msg.

Most ready meals and Mcdonalds are also ?

Tinned frankfurters, tinned meatballs in gravy/tomato sauce I still quite like.

My mum bought them after relentless pressure from me only for me to take one bite and tell her they were vile ? Mini kievs, now they were good (again, banned in the Greenback household).

It was the same with us - my dad called it "rubbish" food and I only had them at friends houses!

I love being a grown up and being able to buy "rubbish" food myself!

Mmmmm I love Findus Crispy Pancakes, they go best with Birds Eye Potato Waffle - they're waffley versatile ?

I don't think you can get these anymore but I would love to have ketchips (chips with ketchup in the middle) with Bernanrd Matthews Hamwich (a triangle of ham with cheese on the top, coated in breadcrumbs). I'd probably find it absolutely rank now but it was my favourite 'frozen' meal.

I always wanted to try pot noodles (again a banned food in our house) - When I was a grown up and eventually did try one - it was horrid!

You can get them in iceland, chicken and ham ones too.

Can anyone tell me where you get the cheesy ones from? I am in SE London.

Yep. Once every few years, I'll have a Sweet & Sour Pot Noodle because they (and Cup A Soups with croutons) were absolutely de rigueur in the Sixth Form once we had access to (gasp) our own kettle! Every single time I'll realise with the first mouthful why it's been years since I last had one. ?

Oh, the minced "beef" ones were the best by far, I used to love them with oven chips. I have a craving for them now!

OH and I bought Vesta Beef Curries the other day in asda, haven't had them yet but I'm really looking forward to it. I fear we might be very disappointed!

I've never had a crispy pancake. When I was growing up junk food was such a rarity we were actually given pot noodles in our Christmas stockings once [rotfl

Ive often wondered what those Fray Bentos pies were like - I've never bought one, but often wondered what "pie in a tin" would taste like.

    Absolutely vile.

Crispy pancakes however are wonderful. I can't believe so many people can't get them, they're permanently on offer in our local Tesco. I bought a box of each at the weekend for £3.

You need to read Lizbeth's pie report but I don't think anyone saved it.

Findus Crispy Pancakes - mmmmm mmmmm!! But only the cheese ones and at 2pt each WW fans - an indulgence I can afford to splurge on!! Best served with oven chips and lashings of ketchup.

On a completely different note, either Fondant Fancies, Battenburg or Mint Viscount biscuits will do it for me every time.

Ohhhh, nostalia here I come! The minced beef ones were best, with waffles or macain ovewn crunches with lots of vinegar (especially on the waffles!)

Mr Brains faggot and processed mushy peas

    BM golden drummers and smash

noodle doodles tinned past on toast

Birds eye beef burgers with alphabites

(The 70's/early 80's were so healthy!)?

I loved the chicken and sweetcorn pancakes. Always found them difficult to cook without overcooking the edges though.

fish fingers, mash n beans was a favourite of mine.

We lived on crispy pancakes in our house when i was wee. We were stupid enough to tell my mum that we liked them and that was the only thing she ever bought!!!!! I bought them recently for my own kids and they hated them, so it meant I had to eat them and i was quite surprised to realise i actually still liked them.

I use to live on birdeye potato waffles, I seem to recall eating them for breakfast although I could be wrong, although I do remember eating Quentins Bacon crisps for breakfast and also mint choc chip gino ginelli ice cream, I was a weird child!

I used to love noodle doodles and we also use to have campbells tinned meatballs, tinned new potatoes which had a distictive taste that i still remember and those petit pois peas and carrots in a jar.

We also used to eat fray bentos pies, i liked them when I was a child but wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now.

I also remember something that was like batter sausages but in ball shapes that were nice too and alphabite and potato croquettes. Oooo and I love mini kievs can you still get them?
