First dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and my partner may not be having a first dance and having a last dance instead and was thinking of picking a few of our favourites and merging them into one as we can't decide lol.

You could find one of the songs that you like and find an acoustic version of it or a band playing it.

Hmmm, either Hotel Yorba by The White Stripes (our long picked choice but he seems to be cooling towards it, I love it though), Lovecats by The Cure (the song he is swaying towards) or Here Comes Your Man by The Pixies (a general favourite of ours). We've considered Jimi but can't pick a specific tune (although admittedly one of our songs is Foxy Lady, but have you ever tried to dance to Hendrix? Not happening).

So, I'm guessing it will be Hotel Yorba, as I'll almost certainly get my own way.

In the nicest way, I don't really understand this approach. IMO, your first dance should be one of those songs that pops to your head, otherwise you're just picking something fairly arbitrary that sounds OK/is a crowd pleaser/etc.

What do you dance to when you go out? What do you bop around to in the kitchen?

We didnt have a "song" as such, but we both really like the lyrics and think this is a beautiful song.

We are hoping that Matt Cardle releases His version of 1st time ever i saw your face cause this is excatly the type of thing we are looking for!!! But if not we will be having it feels like home from the notebook/my sisters keeper!!!! xxx

My OH is known to be a joker and a bit of a non conformist to tradition so for us, the dj will announce "the bride and grooms first dance" we will have the start of the hokey cokey played so people think thats what were having, then just as it gets to "put your right arm in" we'll join hands and then the song will scratch into "i wanna grow old with you" the one out of the wedding singer when we will have learned a proper waltz or something. no one will expect it

We are having 'moon river' - the version from breakfast at tiffanys OH is big into his films so good choice for both of us, only thing is on the soundtrack it only has the backing vocals and not Audrey Hepburn singing but i think this is because it wasnt her actual voice! and it was dubbed, but it's still beautiful.

We had exactly the same problem... I like all sorts, bit of pop, bit of cheese, some pop-punky stuff. He likes indie music.

FTLOMB... I DID want something that 'popped into my head'... a song that I've always loved and thought would be perfect for a first dance song... but HE vetoed it! Then he suggested some songs which I vetoed. Hence the trawling around for a song we both liked. With limited success.

He came home one day and said "While I was at work I came up with a song... how about 'Stand By Me' by Ben E King?" I LOVED the suggestion... it's not too cheesy, it's pretty timeless, and it works for us. Problem solved!

There is no middle ground between those two extremes!!

I think this is a great choice - lovely song but still 'credible' for those who are into their music!

We are having a similar problem. We're not a very 'romantic/fluffy' couple and our song is Mardy Bum by the Arctic Monkeys!

We haven't properly discussed it yet as we've got a year to go so him indoors might have a few ideas without me realising. I doubt it somehow though!
