First Dance Lessons

AmesLou, 29 January, 2023 at 10:14 Posted on Planning 2 5

Is anyone else considering getting lessons for their first dance? I don't want a dramatic different routine, but we also don't just want to stand and sway. I guess I'm thinking of something that looks like we could've came up with it on the spot if we were already good at dancing! With a couple of good photo moments, haha.

Our song is only 2 and a half minutes long, with an instrumental at about 1 and a half minutes. We're planning that to be the moment guests join us on the dancefloor!

I got married in 2019 and we took dance classes as a couple as neither one of us could dance 😂 we did like 4 weeks of lessons just to learn some basic moves from different types of dances (e.g waltz, salsa) and then came up with a simple routine for our first dance. It helped us tremendously

It's a great idea to consider taking lessons for your first dance as a couple! With lessons, you'll be able to create a routine that looks natural and effortless, while also having a few photo-worthy moments. A good dance instructor can help you find a style that suits both of your abilities and preferences. So, you can have a memorable and enjoyable first dance experience on your special day.

Yes, many couples consider taking dance lessons for their first dance as a couple. It's a great way to ensure that your dance looks polished and graceful, and also provides an opportunity for you and your partner to bond and have fun together. It's important to communicate your desired style and goals to your dance instructor, so they can help create a routine that meets your expectations while also incorporating memorable and photogenic moments. Myself and my H2B are currently taking lessons for our wedding in June. Like you we didn't want something overly choreographed but we didn't just want to stand and sway. Its been really good having lessons, our dance teacher listened to our music and then taught us how to feel the music and do basic steps and holds. He is also teaching my H2B how to lead. He gives us ideas and then we choose what we want to do. Its actually a lot of fun and we are already feeling more confident.

We think we will only need about 4 lessons and then we can just practise at home.

We were going to just sway to the music but now have decided to have a basic step and then add a couple of fancy moves every now and then. We've only got just over 2 weeks until our wedding and haven't started practising yet. I've just watched a few videos on YouTube. I've had ballroom dance lessons before a long time ago but my husband to be has never had any lessons. We're going to try and practise over the next couple of weeks. We won't have a choreographed dance. Hopefully, the husband to be will be able to lead. I could do the leading but it wouldn't look right. :-) Worse comes to the worst we will just sway.
