First dance songs

CountDuckula, 12 May, 2009 at 14:00 Posted on Planning 0 20

I don't think has been done for a while. And if it has, then just indulge me!

We're trying to decide and have got it down to a shortlist of:

Take That - Rule the World (it might be too cheesy for us though)
INXS - Never Tear Us Apart (current favourite)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I Could Die For You
Paul Weller - You Do Something To Me (I have a feeling this might be about unrequited love though, does anyone know?)

I think there was maybe one more but I forget now so I obviously don't like it that much! We can't stand anything too cheesy and have ruled out just about every typical first dance song for being naff so we've struggled to get as far as these ones. Actually, there were loads of others I liked but OH vetoed. What are you having?

We're having Rule the World. I think it is a tad cheesy, but not too lovey dovey if that makes sense?! H2b doesn't "do" lovey dovey.

I also love Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deepy but too cheesy and lovey dovey apparently lol.

Yes, it's not too over the top. Although we're starting to wonder if it's too cheesy for us as we are just not like that. I wanted Ring of Fire but OH wasn't having it ?

We're having a soul band who are going to play "my girl" by the Temptations. It was the first song we ever danced to. Coincidentally at another wedding!

I'd love to be able to help, but given we are having 'love is in the air' from the strictly ballroom soundtrack, i'm not sure it's what you're looking for..... ?

Am loving both of these. What about Everthere by Elbow or Fishing For A Dream by Turin Brakes?

I like both of those but I've got no chance of getting OH to agree, it's taken me a while to drum in that his usual music choices of Iron Maiden and AC/DC are not suitable ?

If he's into rock what about sweet child o' mine by Gn'R, or don't wanna miss a thing, aerosmith? Patience by Gn'R is lovely too.

Ah so you won't be likely to consider The Foo Fighters then? ?

I actually love the Chilis one and have played it as a first dance on several occasions, so it's different without being off the scale.

We are thinking of having a Foo's song for our 1st dance, still can't agree on which one though.

Actually, I could manage the Foos. It's the 80's rock I take issue with!

Ah, I see, INXS is a good compromise then I reckon!

I would love Patience, but given my not so secret obsession love for Slash I don't think OH would entertain the idea! Love the Foo's, best concert I've seen.

I think we're likely to have either Have I Told You Lately (Van Morrison version though, not Rod Stewart) or If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys.

I don't think TT's Rule The World is too cheesy either. I ❤️ it

POssibly using INXS while we sign the register and Manic's version of Umbrella to walk back down the aisle

    POssible first dances are:

Jack johnson, moon river or .... god knows!!!

Might be walking in to Muse!

I am going to have a listen to the Chilllis one as I love them. Foos/Everlong would be frickin amazing but I don't think that many people at my wedding would be that receptive LOL

We had Better, by Tom Baxter which is a beeyootiful song, lots of people commented how nice a song it was for a first dance (don't be put off by the frankly, quite awful cover version of the same song by Boyzone)

We wanted to have Jack Johnson - Better Together but one of our wedding guests had it at her husbands' funeral so it didn't seem appropriate to have it.

The other one we considered when I was having a Bridezilla moment about the fact that Boyzone had covered my song (!) 3 months before the wedding, was Happy Together, but the Peter Grant version, not the original by The Turtles. In the end we had it played as we walked out of the ceremony which was lovely as it's really upbeat and happy.
