First Dance / step on dress / Change dress or shoes?

yes2011, 23 July, 2011 at 22:29 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all,

it's not long now and I'm wondering about all kinds of things that could go wrong...

Did any of you think of changing into another dress for the evening reception and dancing, and even different shoes?

My dress touches the ground a tiny bit - and I'm wondering how I can manage to dance the Waltz in it. My OH stepped on my feet during dance class lots of times. And did I say I'm also worried about my satin Rainbow Club shoes (Silvie)?

Cheers,

A

Oh my word no, my dress was on from midday right round until 1am! I didn't want to take it off! My dress just touched the top of my shoes and it wasn't a problem at all and no one stepped on my train. You will find, as I did, that the day goes so quickly that you wont find the time to think about changing into something else and if you were like me, once your dress is on you will really want to make the very most of it. I didn't change my shoes either and to be honest I never even thought about it on the day, pick your shoes well and you wont need to change them Smiley smile

I agree about the dress make the most of it as its only worn for 1 day. As for the shoes I am seriously condiering taking a pair of slippers at night as no one will see them and they are the comfiest things ever ha xx

We are also doing a proper waltx and had some of the same concerns as you, especially with the rise and fall of the dance. I did practice in my wedding shoes, but ahve decided to go for ballroom shoes just because I wont have to worry about them slipping of with the weight of the dress. I would advise making sure you can turn first of all, are you bustling the dress up? Our teacher has advised OH as long as his feet dont leave the floor, i.e. not worrying about heel leads it should be fine as he will only push the dress along with his foot rather than stand on it!

I am changing but that is because we want to do a boogie/jive/foxtrot number and I definitely can't swing through his legs in a great big dress!

One of my bride's doing the full 'time of my life' routine complete with lifts. She's got a knee length white dress to put on just for the first dance, then she's changing back into her wedding dress. Thats an option.

I do first dance tuition. The problem with a wedding dress is not just the hubby stepping on it, but when you step backwards. When you're moving forwards its easy to kick it out of the way, but when you step back or do a turn, then a dress that sweeps the floor becomes a problem. It would be worth putting it on when OH is out of the house and trying your moves out.
