I know. How bizarre is that??!

Actually, its just dawned on me that I have no idea how long a driving test lasts for? Can anyone enlighten me?

Depends how long your three point turn takes! Honestly I think mine was about 1/2 hour, but that was <counts on fingers> about 11 years ago

Good luck - I passed my test in March last year. Tests generally last about 35/40 minutes.

I would say to make sure you err on the side of caution - don't take any risks. I always remember my instructor saying to me "they won't expect you to be a perfect driver, but you will expect you to be a safe driver" and that pretty much sums it up.

I think mine was nearly an hour, but that could have been due to traffic because I took mine at 3:15pm. Oh yes just as schools were kicking out, I really hadn't seen that one coming. My driving instructor whispered in my ear just before I got into the test car '*** I forgot to tell you about lollypop men' ?

    Good luck! You'll be fine.

9.30-ish is probably an OK time, hopefully everyone should already be at school/work etc.

on Mr FtGs first test he was asked to do a reverse-around-a-corner at 3.30 in a small road next to a school. there were kids and mums, on foot and in cars, everywhere. He wasn't happy.

Well done Penguin, as Flowery said 9.30 is a good time as most of the rush hour traffic will have died down so there ought to be less traffic to negotiate. I'm sure you'll do fine and now you know when the test day is you've got something definite to work towards.

    I'm sure you'll be just fine ?

Good luck for your test penguin.

I have my driving test booked for March 9th at 14.42 they really like giving odd times.

I'm going to be hitting the school run traffic during mine which should be interesting. From what my instructor told me it will last about 40 mins.

My instructor has told me to just treat it like a normal driving lesson and try not to think about the fact that its a test if that makes sense. I'd be interested to if anyone has any tips for calming nerves on the day.

Good luck to you too Musette!!! I feel your pain as my lessons are 6 to 8 on a wednesday and I have get through Edinburgh city centre traffic at tea time so I understand what its like to drive at a busy horrid time!

Are you having an hour lesson immediately before the test? Thats been recommended to me so that when you take your test its perfectly natural to be driving and you'll be in the swing of things. That should help the nerves am sure.

I am. My instructor said that he usually takes his students out for an hours lesson before the test to get warmed up and to go over all of the manoeuvres.

My lessons are usually around 9.30 and I very rarely come across heavy traffic. I've had a few lessons after work at 5.30 in the town centre and attacking the magic roundabout every time so I can't imagine it being any worse than that. The roundabout itself wasn't a problem but I found the amount of drivers that did not indicate a nightmare
