Flash your MOTB outfits?

Hoddy, 21 of August of 2013 at 20:19 Posted on Planning 0 25

My Mum doesn't have a clue what to wear to my wedding, we have tried her in so many different colours and styles and nothing has really made her stand out as much as she wants to. Can you show me all your Mum's outfits for a bit of inspiration??

It's John Charles (a tad pricey) ... Bought it from a shop in Kent called fashion scene - the whole shop is mother of the bride / groom outfits.

    It's a stunning outfit on.

Is it just me, or do loads of the models of MOTB outfits look nowhere near old enough to have daughters getting married?

This is the sort of thing she is after, where is it from? I love all the outfits posted so far Smiley smile part of the issue is my mum is only 40, will be 41 when we marry so she's still young and a lot of the dresses make her feel older than she is.

Yes! They're so young most of them. It's slightly off putting and my mums seen nice ones but thinks she'll be "too old" for them through the pics on website, then she sees the same ones in the shop and thinks they're lovely.

No help to this thread sorry mine doesn't have hers in yet but love the ones posted, really classy & smart Smiley smile

This was my outfit for daughter's wedding by John Charles:-

and this is me in it but with my choice of hat:-

I searched for over 6 months to get my outfit because, as you can see, I'm only 5ft and a lot of dresses are either too long and flowing, too plunging at the necklines (some necklines I tried were actually at my waistline!) and sleeves way too long etc. This needed taking up at the shoulders and shortening but I loved it!

It winds me up a bit - it's like they don't think women of the relevant age look good enough to sell their clothes! My mum was 63 when I got married, and I think she looked fab, but none of the shops show people like her, it's all women in their late 30s looking all pouty and sensual.

I think that a lot of designers who do occasion wear don't actually aim them specifically at the wedding market which is why they use standardised models. They can be worn for many other occasions by both young and older ladies. Don't let your Mums be put off by trying anything on if they like it. The only thing that annoyed me when I was looking was the minute I mentioned I was looking for an outfit for my daughter's wedding, I was ushered into a different part of the shop where price tags began at £800 upwards. I also found that a lot of shops which were advertising MOB wear had styles that were too 'Mumsy' for me so I found the boutique type shops much more helpful with a better range to suit all ages.
