Florist's help please (vase related)

HatTrick, 25 November, 2009 at 13:14 Posted on Planning 0 12

I'm having huge cocktail galss style vases, my family are doing the flowers. How do I hide the oasis? I don't want it to be seen through the clear glass.

TIA

You could cover the oasis with moss - you just grab a handful of moss and use florist wires bended over to make pins and pin it on then give it a shave with the scissors so it's nice and neat. Or cover with gravel, pebbles or leaves.

Thankyou, I think the moss would look good.

You can get big bags of it at larger garden centres - you can get coloured moss too to match your flowers!

Ooh fab. Also, while your here.... can you get roses that are naturally fuschia coloured? Will they be available in Feb, and also will pink lillies (the star shaped ones) be available in Feb?

    Thanks so much

Yes, you can get roses in varying shades of fuschia pink and most are available year round as they are flown in from abroad. If you bounce for Bygeorge, she can let you have all the names of the best varieties for weddings. There are so many new varieties of roses and since I packed my shop in and specialised in artificial flowers, I've lost track of the fresh variety names now. Stargazers are also available all year round. If you get stuck with the moss, let me know and I can have a look at the wholesalers for you.

Thanks so much, I'm sorry for bombarding you with questions, I didn't realise you now specialised in artifical flowers.

    You've been a great help ?

No problem - glad to help! Georgie specialises in fresh flowers so she can give you the low down on the latest fresh varieties - probably all the ones I know from years ago have been replaced by other fancy names now LOL!

Hiya, there are lots of bright pink varieties available, my favourite is aqua. It's a lovely shade of fuschia, widely available all year, a really uniform rose and best of all it doesn't have any thorns on it!! It's fuschia, but not a really hot pink....for that your best bet is something like shocking versilla, although these are more expensive and aren't so widely available. The stargazer lilies are available all year.

Moss is good for hiding oasis, if you want a really easy option we often use scrunched up cellophane. It looks really effecive, and even the clear stuff completely hides any oasis.

HTH a bit, shout if you want any more info!

    Georgie

Just had a little thought...... have you bought your martini glasses yet? If not, you could go for opaque glass rather than clear glass - black ones look brill with fuscia. This would save you having to cover the oasis and cut your cost down a bit. I'll see if I can find a piccie of a black glass one for you.

    Hi,

I didn't have oasis but thought I'd show you how gel beads can look in a vase https://www.flickr.com/photos/34298875@N07/3561888791/

why can't I copy pictures from Flickr to paste on here now?

I had lights at the bottom of the vase so the gel beads covered them https://www.flickr.com/photos/34298875@N07/3562703804/

Thought I had a picture of the actual vase - here's a photo of the finished arrangement in a black martini vase - hastens to add, these are not my arrangements !! but one of my favourite designers - Jonathan Moseley. I've added another fuschia one he did for you too.

These are a mix of fresh and artificial flowers.

Thanks Georgie, the cellophane sounds like a good idea too.

Rainbow Florist- Yes we have already brought them (although I will need to buy another one as my delightful ats managed to break one a few weeks back.

PG- I love the vases with hollow stems but unfortunately mine aren't hollow. Thanks for the pics though.

    Thanks again for your help
