Flowers

Yasmin, 12 October, 2020 at 22:08 Posted on Planning 0 4
Hi all Smiley smile

I've found a beautiful bouquet of artificial flowers on ebay, for myself and bridesmaids/flower girls. There's also the option of having matching button holes, and corsages for the women - which I love. But my question is, if I buy these do I still need to hire a florist?
Day venue is in a small church and evening is in a golf club.
TIA ❤️

Very good question! It depends what you want. Originally, I was not going to have a florist and go for a DIY mix of dried, artificial and real flowers with simple DIY styling. However, there are aspects of the venue which look so much better with floral decor which we have been advised would be very tricky to do ourselves, so I am now considering a florist.

The florist I would like has a minimum price of £1000-£1500 (depending on time of year). My plan is to present her with a wish list and see how much she can do for the bare minimum cost. The rest we will have to DIY. However, I need to make sure that we don’t overspend on any other areas first, and possibly either find a cheaper florist or do without if we do!
You definitely don’t need a florist and there is a lot you can do yourself decor-wise with or without flowers. I think your type and style of venue will play a big factor as well. At the end of the day, it’s totally up to you!

Thank You for your advice lovely.

Corr blimey, £1000-£1500 seems quite steep. I'd that's almost the amount I'm paying for my dress. That's quite scary.
Because our church is quite small, and they already have some beautiful flower arrangements there, I don't particularly want to add many more due to the time of year we're getting married and people with allergies etc.
I guess the evening, will be different as it will be decorated by a venue decorator. But we've still to talk through that with her.
Good luck and best wishes for your big day.

It's more than I'm spending on my dress and shoes put together - hence my reluctance to have a florist at all! Once you start looking at the flowers, they are very pretty though and it's very easy to get suckered in. We are getting married in Surrey, so I am aware we pay a huge premium for everything just because of that.

We are having a civil ceremony with everything at the same venue, so there is really only one big room to decorate, which maybe makes it a bit better.

You don't 'need' any flowers at all to get married - it's just whether or not you want them!

Depending on the look you are going for, you could DIY flowers for the church & then get them moved to the reception so you're not paying double. We just had a professionally made bouquet and buttonhole for me and him, and the church was decorated by a couple who love gardening and flowers - it looked great, but we weren't going for any particular 'look'.
