Flowers!!

Maxine, 2 October, 2022 at 21:23 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hi everyone, just after some advice.

I had my heart set on sunflowers for my wedding. I had the while thing planned out, how they would be included and even decided on sunflower seeds as my favours.
I found my dress a couple of weeks back and it's thrown a bit of a spanner in the works as it has delicate pink flowers in the dress. Now I'm not sure if it will go with a sunflower bouquet and my mum is not helping as she has been against the whole sunflower theme from the start.
I do agree that a pink bouquet would go better, but mu question is whether anyone has had different flowers in the bouquet to those flowers they've had elsewhere (centerpieces, aisle decorations and so on). I think this might be a good way to get sunflowers in without it being directly next to my dress? Or do I completely scrap the idea of sunflowers?
Help, I don't know what to do. Pic of my dress below shown so you can see the colours

If you look online you can get some pink sunflower variations and find lots of sunflower bouquets with similar flowers like pink gerberas, roses or other pink accents to complement - you could keep your sunflower theme, but bring in some subtle pink accents to complement your dress? You might find that you like having fewer sunflowers as highlights in mixed arrangements so they stand out? Do not scrap an idea you love, enjoy having a look at how others have brought in different colours and used sunflowers and see if that feels right - also, your dress is beautiful and if you just had a sunflower bouquet it would be absolutely fine - do what feels right for you! x

Thank you. I've had a look online and I'm just struggling to get excited by anything. Just need to keep up the search and maybe speak to different florists to get some ideas

I think find a florist first that works with your idea and doesn't just offer up what they are comfortable doing/used to.

I had a clear idea of what I wanted and once I spoke to a couple of florists and and got some moodboards back it was clear who understood what I wanted. As Sarah says there are loads of sunflower options out there in pinks and reds and different colours.

It sounds like a lovely idea and its a gorgeous dress so I'm sure you'll find a florist who gets it!

You can get sunflowers in pinkish/reddish tones, so perhaps you could have those for your bouquet and then have the more traditional yellow sunflowers on your reception tables? There are loads of different varieties and you can also get seeds for many of them, so you could even have favours that match the sunflowers in your bouquet!

I think sunflowers and roses or carnations go beautifully. Or could you have the bridesmaid’s in pink to match the detail on your dress?
