Flowers

Bex, 9 May, 2023 at 20:42 Posted on Planning 0 5
I’m a little lost when it comes to flowers. Have decided to have bouquets, button holes and some on the table, more of a runner with mainly foliage and few flowers but what else do people normally have for their reception flower wise?
The venue is nice but I feel needs something more to make it feel more like a wedding. One wall is all glass with amazing views so don’t to mess with that, another wall has large round mirrors on which am considering having flowers around? as I like the mirrors but last wall is just brick but only broken up by a couple of doors.
Help please, my other half apparently doesn’t have an opinion on flowers ( I am sure he will when the price comes through but we will see) Thank you

Just to make you aware, if you are having real flowers, they are very expensive. So this might limit what you book for the reception.
I have booked my bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 7 buttonholes, 2 corsages, 7 table centre pieces and a spray for the top table with petal scatter. Plus 2 gift bouquets for our mums. It has come to just over £1,000. Buy some vases from IKEA and ask your venue to put water in them. You and your bridesmaid will need to put your bouquets somewhere during the reception, so this way you can put them in vases and use them as added Decor. I wouldn't go overboard with thr flowers to be honest, especially if your venue already looks nice. Real flowers are so expensive! Save the pennies and put towards other things. I'm 3 weeks away from my wedding and there are quite a few unexpected costs so having a little extra money put aside will help.

We are having similar to you other than the table stuff. We are thinking to have real alive flowers / small plants, either from the florist who will supply pots in whatever colour, or from a local garden centre and we supply the pots - and that way we, and some guests, can take them with them as a memory of the day after the day.

I agree with Kirsty, real flowers are expensive - that's why I'd really like the alive plants. We are very lucky and marrying in a beautiful big church, they have a flower info sheet and we can put flowers on 'pew ends' no idea how as they don't have pews, they are single chairs LOL - but we are thinking to have the alive plants in the church aisle - and then getting the florist to take them to the reception - as when we arrive there we will be busy with canapes and photos for 2 hours, so they can go put them on the tables. We might not do this, as prefer to have it all ready the day before at the reception - but a thought.

And we will probably go for one or 2 really big bouquets; one for my parents to take with them and one for us - one in the church that then gets taken to the reception and another for the reception - still finalising it all - I found it really helpful to chat to our florist, and also look at loads of pictures of other flowers online to get ideas xx

    Hi.

At first I was going to do everything myself and then thought it would be too stressful. Therefore, I'm having a florist do my bouquet and bouquets for each of the 3 bridesmaids and then buttonholes for 5 people including groom etc. For the flowers on the table, as I'm at a relatively small venue I have bought small vases and will buy fresh cut flowers and put 2/3 flowers in each vase when we set up the day before. Saves a lot of money.

Another idea that was recommended to me that I hadn’t considered is a local flower arranging group. I have managed to find one who do weddings and looking at their photos of previous weddings, their church displays and competition entries they look amazing and obviously take great attention to detail. There are a small team of them and are going to stay and turn the ceremony room round for dinner for us. I haven’t got my quote yet but my friend used them and said they were a lot cheaper than the local florist.
