Those of you that abstain (regularly) - what non alcoholic drinks do you have instead?

Day 1 of abstainance in the Big Clairy House and I had apple juice and decaff tea ?. Both were as nice as alcohol really, which confirms it's just a 7pm habit. I hoped to feel wonderful this morning, but am feeling all dehydrated so it doesn't feel much different! ?

I drink an awful lot of water and hi-juice squash. I also drink tea and have the occasional hot chocolate.

I am pregnant so haven't had a drink (apart from the odd glass) since September. During the week its a lot easier to cope without alcohol, I drink a lot of tea and orange squash.

On a weekend it is much harder, when H gets his alcohol for the weekend, I get myself a bottle of pop or some cans of pop, just so its something different from what I'm drinking during the week.

    Good luck with it.

Instead of drink in the evening? Tea or weak squash usually, or diet coke/pepsi max. I don't drink nearly enough liquids really.

Having January off alcohol has made me realise that actually, when I do drink alcohol, I feel terrible the next day, even just a couple of glasses I'm just not so alert and usually a little headachey.

H is on 3 month no-alcohol under doctors orders. His (and my) alcohol free drinks are orange juice and lemonade (cloudy by preference), lime and soda and alcohol free beer (Bavaria seems to be the only 0% and isn't bad tasting). We've also been trying those bottles of sparkling fruit juices as a replacment for wine. Some are too sweet but Tesco finest (I think) elderflower and grape juice is nice.

I am not abstaining at the moment, well no more than usual, but I thought I would share anyway ? My favourite soft drink is Schloer, but I bet it's v. fattening. Ginger ale is nice. Ooh, and there was a new soft drink in the local store the other day- I'll try and remember its name as it looked good. I am not a massive fan of coke etc. and hate diet drinks but like to feel I am having something at night time other than the usual water which I drink all day long.

At home I drink tea, water, horlicks or hot chocolate. When I'm out I drink Slimline Tonic, which I actually really like. Makes me think I'm drinking gin!! I don't really drink fizzy drinks, specially not in pubs as they are grim.

I drink tonnes of water, at least 2l a day and will happily just drink water when out for a meal. At home I'll drink high juice with either fizzy or plain water. I also drink Coke (too much but trying very hard to cut down) or Irn Bru. When I'm trying to be grown up, I'll drink Amé, Shloer (sp?), Appletize or Fruitize out of a wine glass. Shloer Bucks Fizz is gorgeous. More and more restaurants now have nice non-alcoholic drinks on their menus; when I was away with my mum, we had a bottle of elderflower fizz served in a wine bucket and with champagne flutes, all for a bargain £9.99. ?

As well as not drinking alcohol, I don't drink tea, coffee, milk or anything with aspertame/phenylalanine in it so I'm limited to non-diet/sugar free juices and fizzy drinks or water really.

I really struggle with this, which is why I end up dri nking wine ?

I think fruit juice and other drinks with sugar in are the devil's work, but there are so few nice sugar-free alternatives, and so few non-alcoholic drinks that aren't sweet-tasting.

I like slimline tonic water, and tomato cocktail/V8, and drink a fair bit of sugar-free squash, and sometimes I make lemonade with fresh LJ and sweetener. Or there's water. That's about it - I figure if I'm not getting alcohol out of a drink I certainly don't want calories, which rules out most things.

I try and have plenty of water at work. I also have Diet Coke and Peppermint tea during the day. Like Robinsons sugar-free squashes (the peach, and pink grapefruit are my faves). Bottle Green do a great range of presses, cordials and othe rnon-alcofrolic slurps which are all delicious, too, for the more 'special' occasion.

I don't drink alcohol at home. Just stick to plain or fizzy water really. What about flavoured fizzy water?

I love ginger beer, love it. I love all things ginger actually!

I alos drink elderflower cordial with sparkling water or lime and soda.

I drink lots of different teas at home.

I've been told if you make some herb tea, leave it to cool completely and add a teaspoon of honey, its not disimilar to white wine (well, bad white wine I guess)

You can buy some lovely fruit sparkling drinks, I love the Scottish Raspberry and the Mexican Lime from Tesco, both own brands and less than £1 a bottle, often on 2 for £1.50 too. There is a good choice of branded drinks in the same section to, usually found in the water aisle.

That always reminds me of being in hospital, where the lady in the next bed's elderly mother used to visit every day. The day Harvey Nichs opened in Edinburgh, she came to visit with a a bottle of this (amongst other things) from there, saying she had heard how lovely it was. She poured her daughter a glass of it, completely unaware it was to be diluted. It was very funny, I don't think any of us had seen someone in a rheumatology ward move so quickly as she tried to get to the sink to spit it out. ? The same mother brought us all a very thick paper napkin from HN, telling us to use it for several days to protect out clothes but we were absolutely not to throw it in the bin as it was from Harvey Nichols. ?

When I was pregnant I craved fizzy, sweet drinks like lucozade, but I couldn't have too much so would buy a litre bottle of fizzy water and mix with Robinson's sugar free orange. Drank pints of the stuff.

Normally (now) I drink water or nettle/green/camomile tea.

I drink masses of water, 3/4 cups of coffee per day and a tomato juice for a treat.

If I fancy something else I'll have a tonic water or a bitter lemon (so I can pretend there is gin in it)

Asda, of all people, do a really nice non-alcoholic Muscat. That's worth looking out for (especially at just over £1 a bottle).

Otherwise, I drink water and Pepsi Max (too much of that, I fear). I find drinks like Schloer really tasteless tbh. Ginger beer is yummy but I find it gives me cystitis (I'm so hardcore).
