Food at the reception

Rebecca, 3 December, 2025 at 09:58 Posted on Planning 2 37

Hi all,

We are looking to do things a bit differently and get food trucks instead of a sit down meal.

We were looking at getting just one food truck (A pizza van) which can serve 130 pizzas (which is all of our guests) but would it be better to have a variety of maybe something else as well?

I guess the question is, what would you guys suggest is best?

We are trying to stick to a budget and it turns out food is really expensive!

My first thought is that in a gathering of 130 people, you are bound to have some people with dairy/gluten intolerance - and you could well have some people who are allergic too. I'm not sure what the gluten and dairy-free pizza options would taste like, but it might make sense to look at having a second food truck which includes something else.

Maybe fish & chips? Or can you get one of those companies that provides a range of street food?

I was looking over the Red Robin menu with prices , and it actually seems pretty reasonable for what you get. The classic burgers are usually on the lower end, while the gourmet ones cost a bit more but come with bigger portions and more toppings. Appetizers and sides also fall into a nice mid-range, especially considering most of them are big enough to share. When you factor in things like bottomless fries, the value feels even better. If you’re trying to plan a meal for a small group or just deciding what’s worth the price, Red Robin definitely gives you plenty of options without feeling too expensive.

Good discussion! Food at a reception really matters — it sets the tone for the rest of the night. Skimping on meals or serving just snacks can leave guests disappointed, especially if the reception goes late. It’s a bit like a spike mod apk volleyball matchif you don’t keep players fuelled and ready, no matter how good your strategy, the energy drops — and the game suffers. So whether it’s a sit‑down dinner or buffet, planning enough good food shows real hospitality

Hii, I'm Deode. I'm a Digital Marketer in Sydney . Food is the main part of a wedding. The attractive carts are major hits at weddings and always attract attention. You can easily find the best food cater if their food is good and stays on top of the search engine. Kindly give me suggestions for the best food cater in Sydney. Your suggestions would help!

This is exactly what we are doing. Our pizza supplier is Cart and Carriage. We also have the Gourgeous Gourmet Grub van, Eric (and his owner), for the day. They both cater for food intolerances and dietary requirements etc.

We're both foodies, so we're excited for our day!! We've also gone a bit mad and booked a waffle van too... mmmmmm!

Hi Deode, welcome! You’re absolutely right — food carts and live stations are always a big hit at Sydney weddings. For caterers, I’d suggest looking at those with strong reviews, clear wedding experience, and interactive options like grazing tables, food trucks, or live cooking stations. In Sydney, names like The Fresh Collective, Doltone House Catering, and Shared Affair often come up because they combine quality food with great presentation. Also, caterers who showcase real weddings on their website and rank well on Google usually know how to deliver both taste and service.

Food at the reception really sets the tone for the entire celebration. Offering a mix of crowd-pleasing options along with a few personalized or cultural dishes can make guests feel truly cared for. Ready-to-serve or semi-prepared food options are also a great choice—they help keep everything running smoothly without compromising on flavor or quality. Whether it’s a relaxed buffet or a formal sit-down meal, good food always becomes one of the most memorable parts of a wedding. https://priceindexs.com/

So we found one of the biggest 'risks' with a food truck is people waiting. Having spoken to our wedding planner we've gone for a pizza truck but asked them to do them 'buffet style' and keep topping up. This was great as we actually needed less than 1 pizza per person which also brought the cost down. We chose 5 options for toppings (2 veggie 2 not) and they can cater to dietary requirements which they're making fresh. The only issue we had was for one coeliac but we are having her food prepared elsewhere (what you'd need with any supplier).

We are having ours with bowls of salad we're preparing (again-budget wedding), and then pudding. We're also doing canapés for the reception. Everyone's been really on board with it and personally I think it's a great way to cater to everyone's needs without breaking the bank (or having the timing constraint of trying to make sure everyone is served by waiters at once). Food is important but from everyone I've spoken to (unless it's phenomenal) no one really remembers it that much. They remember if it was on time, hot, and there was enough of it. We're going to add a second option (like paella) if we can in the budget as we'd love to have more than one option.

We still did a table plan as we wanted to give everyone a 'base' to go back to, but it's been way more relaxed and easy this way. Hope that helps!

Using food trucks can be a fun and budget-friendly idea for your reception! If you want variety beyond just pizza, you could mix in something like tacos or sliders so guests have options. For inspiration, checking Texas Roadhouse family meals and menu ideas might help you plan crowd-pleasing options without breaking the bank.

Food trucks sound like a fun and budget-friendly idea! A pizza van for all 130 guests works, but adding one or two other options—like sliders, tacos, or even some hearty platters inspired by the Outback Steakhouse Lunch menu could give more variety and make sure everyone finds something they love.

A single pizza van can definitely work, especially if they’re confident they can serve all 130 guests in a reasonable time. Pizza is usually a crowd-pleaser and easy to eat while mingling. That said, having just one option can sometimes be a little limiting, especially if you have guests with dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, or people who just don’t love pizza).

If your budget allows even a small bit of flexibility, you might consider adding a second, simpler option rather than another full truck. For example, a small dessert cart, a salad station, or even a fries or taco stand can add variety without doubling your costs. This way, guests who want something lighter or different still have a choice, and it can make the whole setup feel more “rounded.”

Another thing to think about is timing. One truck serving 130 people could create a bit of a queue, which isn’t always a bad thing, but having even a small second station can help keep lines moving and guests happy.

For inspiration and ideas, I often browse food-focused sites to see what kinds of vendors and menus are trending — you might find some creative budget-friendly options at Foodies Pakistan .

At the end of the day, if pizza fits your theme, your budget, and your crowd, it’s absolutely okay to keep it simple. Maybe just make sure the pizza van offers a few different toppings (meat, veggie, and maybe one “special” option) so everyone feels included. Fun food, good company, and a relaxed atmosphere usually matter way more than a long formal menu anyway. 💕

I was reviewing the Texas Roadhouse menu with prices , and it actually seems quite reasonable for the amount of food you get. The classic burgers are generally on the more affordable side, while the gourmet burgers cost a little more but come with larger portions and extra toppings. The appetizers and sides are also priced in a comfortable mid-range, and many of them are big enough to share. When you add in perks like bottomless fries, the overall value becomes even better. If you're planning a meal for a small group or simply trying to decide what offers the best value, Red Robin provides plenty of choices without feeling overly expensive.

Food really does matter at a wedding – guests remember if it’s tasty, served on time, and there’s enough for everyone. Food trucks like a pizza van can be awesome and relaxed, but offering a bit of variety (maybe another option for dietary needs) might make everyone happier. Food trucks sound like such a fun and relaxed idea for a reception! A pizza van could work well since most guests enjoy pizza, but adding one more option might help give a little variety for different tastes. When planning menus for larger groups, I sometimes look at things like Texas Roadhouse nutrition data just to get a rough idea of portions and food preferences people usually enjoy. Your idea definitely sounds unique and memorable!
