Kayleigh, 25 August, 2022 at 21:55 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 4

Hi all

Our honeymoon is booked at the Forest Holidays Forest of Dean resort,

Has anyone been here before and can give me any feedback about the place/general area?

Any must see places of interest or activities? x

I used to live just up the road from there. There is so much to do, it really depends on your interests. If you want something outdoorsy, you can go canoeing down the wye, hire mountain bikes to explore the forest or use the Go Ape trail. There are some stunning walks around the area too, along the river Wye, or check out the Sculpture Trail. If you are more into history, check out Gloucester Docks and Cathedral, Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle. Westbury Court Gardens are beautiful too.

Puzzle Wood is worth a visit, and if you want to revisit your childhood, check out the Steam Railway. Taurus Crafts has a great selection of small businesses & crafts people as well as a garden centre and cafe, and you can have a lovely walk along the river at nearby Lydney Docks.

As you can probably tell, I love the area (and miss it so much!) so I'm probably biased, but there are tons of things to do and see there - one holiday won't be enough!

A fantastic break in the wildlife around us. We had little red owls right above our patio, and deer that we saw regularly on our walks through the woods. We have a Jack Russell dog, and he's in his element there, but because of the distance between the posts in our cabin's outdoor area, he will run off into the woods, so we take a couple rolls of plastic netting to keep that from happening. The outdoor table and chairs are made of wood and are pretty dirty because of the forest environment, which is understandable to us, but we also stop by your site at Keldy, which has the best outdoor furniture with no mold or green covering. Fantastic time away and we will be back.
