Foxes and chilli powder.....

anjumanji, 20 June, 2008 at 21:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I bought some bedding plants last week and planted them in pots which I left on the decking. Went away to my mum's for a couple of days and came back today, to find that they'd been dug up and dirt scattered everywhere[:'(].

I've re-potted them again, but in order to deter the foxes from digging them up again, I've sprinkled chilli powder all around the plants. Is this likely to work? My reasoning is that when they start to sniff around the plants they'll get a nose full of chilli powder which will stop them investigating further.

What do you reckon? Will it keep them away?

Not sure if it will work but in theory it sounds good. It would be hilarious to watch though, maybe you should try pepper as well...

Are you sure it was foxes and not a domestic cat?

Either way, chilli might just do the trick. ?

a metric f*ck-ton of chilli used to keep the cats off my lawn. Unfortunately I now have a dog and it would pset his nose too!

I'm assumig it was the foxes because they've been dragging all manner of crap into the garden recently. Also there was no buried present in the dirt so I don't think it was cats.

Did you just sprinkle the chilli all over and how much did you use? I've used about a heaped teaspoon in each pot which I sprinkled all over, would that be enough.
