Freecycle grumbles - wanted posts

flailing wildly, 27 March, 2009 at 21:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Not actually grumbles as such, such observations. A grumble would infer that it had affected me in some way, when it hasn't ?

Is it just peculiar to my local group, or are the amount of ridiculous 'wanted' posts increasing? I'm often blown away by the bare faced cheek of some posts (as well as the sheer greediness). One recently stands out in my mind which went along the lines of 'Wanted - widescreen / flatscreen TV, 32" or bigger, for my new flat. Also electric cooker, not a glass topped one as I like to cook and will break it.' I mean, really, do people genuinely think they can scab expensive goods like that off complete strangers?

Just saw one this evening, which whilst not in the outright greediness bracket, still made me pull a face. 'Wanted, BBQ. We've just moved house and are in dire need of a barbeque'. Honestly. No-one is ever in 'dire need' of a barbeque. You can be in dire need of a bed, or sofa, or something similar, but not that. Stop taking the p*ss.

What's the most outrageous thing you've seen posted on Freecycle?

    Holy crap ?

I know what you mean about people being picky. It's Freecycle, not E-bay. I gave away a pine mirror the other day and described it really well (size, condition, even the type of frame moulding and width) and someone still emailed me to ask if I could take some pictures of it. No, sod off, I can't.

There is someone on my local group asking for a 3 wheeler pushchair. What's wrong with a 4 wheeled one? these are the sorts of things that people can sell second hand and yet they expect it to be handed away for free.

I saw one today from someone asking for Jade Goody books - do they think they are going to be suddenly collectable now that she's died or something???

Today we have a 'Wanted - sat nav'.

What on earth possesses these people? Hmmm....I'd love a sat nav...ooohh I bet someone's got one sat in a cupboard doing nothing that they'd love to give away for free!

There's recently been an Admin message from the Swindon board basically telling people not to be so greedy ? I think there's since been another about offering things and then asking for payment.

Ive recently joined my local freecycle cos I want to get rid of stuff. It seems v well organised and we have a 'Wanted Wednesday' the only day of the week you can post a wanted and youre only allowed one wanted a week. Also there are strict rules that no one is to ask for luxury items that we would all like if we had the cash, everyone seems to adhere to this too.

Not a grumble, but a bit of bemusement:

? at some of these. Cheeky barstewards.

I hardly ever go on our local one. Nothing too cheeky but a few odd ones:

Wanted dog or pup as son allergic to cats, must be good with kids

Wanted 1 red and 1 blue fabric pen (surely these must cost about 50p each, go and buy them!)

Wanted backpack for carrying a toddler (we have one of these it was £160, why would anyone give one away?)

Wanted 2 boys duvet covers must be matching

And a classic one for on here

    Wanted - sunbed

And also the ones that seem to tell their life stories in their request:

in desperate need of a small bookcase for my sons bedroom as he is an avid reader and we cannot move in his room for piles of famous fives and secret sevens...

we rlooking for a family dog my kids r still young so a pupy would be best
please help my husband has a lot of time on his hands so it will be well looked
    after thank u

I sort of 'get' that one! A couple of years ago, I tried really hard to adopt a tortoise through the RSPCA, but they're rarer than rockinghorse sh it, it would seem! You've got to imagine that some tortoise owners would lose interest around year 40!

? I had a similar thought Roobarb when someone put on that they wanted a travel cot for their baby when the grandparents were up at the weekend. I gave them mine but I wanted to know what they would have done if they'd not got a cot. perhaps the baby would have slept in a drawer. ?

I now have the image of a mad woman and her two ferrets on leads boarding a bus to the vets.

Okay here are a few recent gems from the tightwads of Leeds!

looking for an old horse trailer that needs work as we cant afford to buy one (credit crunch) anything will do as long as we can tow it away.

hi it might be a long shot but was wondering if anyone has any high school
musical bedroom acessories. I am decorating my 4yr olds bedroom and anything
would be appreciated. I can collect. Thanks very much

I am looking for a 20"+ TV fpor my flatmate to play hia XBOX 360 on in his room.

    can anybody help?

Hi long shot i know but wondered if anyone could get me out of a pickle and
store my caravan safely for me after my marriage has broken down.Thankyou

    Hello,

    Attention Kind Married Ladies!

My partner and i are planning our wedding, and have a tiny weeny budget to hand.
I planned on using my mums wedding dress on the big day - only to find that she
in fact threw it away a few years back. I think she was in the belief that i
would infact be a crazy cat lady when i got older, rather than get married.
There's nothing wrong with cats though!

And so I wondered if there were any ladies out there who would consider giving
their wedding dresses a new lease of life? There must be hundreds of dresses out
there that cost lots of money, only to now sit all alone in a dusty cupboard.

I'm not fussy on what kind of dress i'll take, i just want to get married to the
man i love. I'm 5'5, and currently a size 16 on top. I could probably get down
to a size 14 without consorting to starving myself or lopping my top half off.

    Please do contact me! :-)

Why does Freecycle have a disproportionate share of society's illiterates?
