Freezing meatballs - Should I cook them first?

Lady Falafel, 18 March, 2009 at 18:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I've made a big batch of meatballs which are headed for the freezer. Do I need to cook them first, or are they ok to bung in raw?

Also will they completely ming if we oven cook them once they're thawed?

You can do either (and I have) both have their pros and cons, when they're cooked they hold their shape when frozen better than raw, but sometimes break up more when you re cook them so I'd freeze them raw!

I only freeze them cooked when I've made too many for one meal and we have enough left for another one.

I buy them raw from the supermarket and throw them in the freezer and they are fine to cook when you need them. It might be worth laying them flat and seperated so they don't clump together.

Fab, I'll open freeze them then bag em up.

Will try the oven cooking but as it's for post-baby meals, any food that isn't biscuits will taste great, I'm sure. If they fall apart I'll just pretend it's meant to be a ragu instead ?
