I went to a wedding there recently and it was lovely, although I'm not sure if they used the resident dj, but whoever it was he was good! (sorry that is absolutely no help!)

I would suggest that you arrange a meeting with the in house DJ. make sure that you feel confident in his or her abilities.

If you are unsure, call a few other dj's and choose one that you feel confident with.

In my own experience, many venues would persuade couples to book thier resident DJ, as they make money in a mark up from them.

We have the resident DJ, he has been very good with communication and a bonus that he is tucked out of the way and all of his speakers / lights etc are already set up

My daughter was married yesterday in the manor house and the dj was fantastic he played a great selection of music everyone was up dancing right until it ended he also played all the requests that was asked for definately book them
