Furry blue cheese - ok to eat?

Katchoo, 8 October, 2008 at 20:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I don't normally eat blue cheese (since a roquefort I ate in France bought me out in hives that lasted 2 days! ?), but I bought a gorgeous Blacksticks Blue cheese from M&S on Sunday. I opened it the same day and afterwards I put the half that was left in a sealed tupperware container in the fridge.

I've just gone to have some and its got a little growth of fur on the rind and on a bit of the blue. Is that usual? Would it be okay to scrape it off and eat?

I know this is a boring question but it was so niiiice and I've been looking forward to it all day. ??

Whilst I am a founding member of the "Any cheese other than Wensleydale is wrongity wrong" club, I don't suppose it would do much harm to eat it.

Although at a H&S training day the other week we were told of the hidden fingers of mould that spread throughout food, but yours is meant to have it anyway?

Thanks ladies. I thought it would be okay, but thought I should probably check it out with the font of all knowledge that is Hitched. And Google was conflicting.

I can highly recommend M&S Blacksticks Blue - it's gorgeous. Really creamy.
