Hepburn, 16 July, 2009 at 14:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Last year it was daddy long legs invading my house, this year it's thunder bugs! All our doors and windows are shut yet they are still crawling all over me ?

Is it just me or are they everywhere this year????

I painted the reveals of my doors and windows yesterday in brilliant white - although now it's brilliant white with millions of thunderbugs stuck in it.

When they're not stuck in my paintwork, I hoover them up. Works a treat.

    What's a thunder bug?

I came home to find the porch filled with flying ants the other day. Out came the washing powder & boiling water. Soon sorted them out. I had the task of cleaning up the paste last night though ?

They are tiny tiny tiny black bugs, they are 3 or 4 mm long and look like (random description) specks of mascara that move!

And they are everywhere this summer!

Eeeugh flying ants are horrid too, don't envy that job KB3!

The Thunderflies or Thrips that you're seeing a lot of at the moment have come off the wheat and barley that is being harvested now.

Thanks to the dry summer harvest has started a bit earlier this year - the combines are out in force around here! The weather also means that there are an awful lot more bugs around than there has been for the last few summers - we had tons of greenfly and aphids earlier in the summer but these have been taken care of by all the ladybirds which have appeared.

The thunderflies are a bit of a pain (especially when they work their way into picture frames etc) but will disappear once the harvest is finished.

Still - the spiders are happy - their webs are full!!!!

Ewwwww, I HATE them. The village I live in is surrounded by fields of barley and winter wheat, although they have not started bringing them in yet, fields further out are, anyway, yes they are everywhere!!!

They don't bother my BF but I can't stand them, they make me feel horrible and dirty, they are drawn to me no matter what colour top I'm wearing and it's a PITA.
