Garden Gift List

Recommendations please!
We want to create a garden themed gift list to fill our new garden with lovely roses, flowers, shrubs, trees to remind us of our special day!

Anyone know any companies that offer this as a wedding list service? Worried about loads of plants at the venue and getting them home, or then being delivered while we’re on honeymoon!

I can't offer any advice, but it sounds like an amazing idea. Perhaps you could ask a local landscaping company to break down the costs of what you want?

Sorry, to finish my post above. What I mean is by asking for a breakdown you could then create your own costed gift list i.e. Rose Bush for £X, then people can give that amount and know what they're paying for.

I'm not aware of any companies that offer this service. The easiest way forward might be to ask for garden centre vouchers. This would also have the advantage that you could buy a little at a time, instead of having to do one massive planting session - it's surprising how long it takes to dig a planting hole for one shrub. Also, if you are getting married in August, you might want to delay purchasing and planting the garden until the autumn. Anything planted in the summer is going to need a LOT of watering for several weeks - plant up a whole garden in August and you are going to be spending your first few months of married life permanently attached to a hosepipe Smiley laugh

If you are not expert gardeners yourselves, you might want to enlist the help of a local gardener/garden designer to advise on which plants would work best for your garden. It's not as simple as planting what you like where you want it!

Thank you - really good advice! Struggling to find online gift vouchers with some of my local GC's which is a bit of pain. I've put some vouchers for David Austin Roses. Any recommendations for online suppliers of flowers/shrubs? Or ones to avoid? (I'd prefer to see/pick the plants in person, but as a backup in case the local option does;t work). Thanks so much!

Aw, sorry, I've only just seen this - I guess it's too late now, but just in case - your best bet is probably to go for National Garden Gift vouchers as they are accepted most places. But David Austin roses are amazing - definitely a breeder to consider for any roses in your garden.

Online plant-buying is pretty hit and miss unless you are buying from the specialist nurseries - I tend to buy in-person from local nurseries unless I'm wanting several of one type of plant and then I seek out a mail-order specialist. If you can find a family-run nursery, even better, as they tend to be more knowledgeable than the big chains.
