Getting legally married abroad

Wendy, 5 December, 2024 at 17:33 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 7
Hi everyone. First post here. Newly engaged and getting married abroad is a strong contender. We’d love to get married in Spain but neither of us have citizenship so a legal ceremony is a no go. We don’t want to get married here and then get married again abroad. What other options are available to us?

Getting legally married abroad can be tricky, especially without citizenship. Have you looked into doing the legal part at home first and then having a symbolic ceremony in Spain? A lot of couples go this route, and it keeps things simple while still letting you have the dream wedding.

If Spain doesn’t work out legally, maybe consider Gibraltar? It’s nearby, and you can have a legally recognized marriage there without being a resident. Then you can still celebrate in Spain with a symbolic ceremony!

Getting legally married abroad can be such a headache! Spain’s rules are strict unless you’ve got residency, so a lot of couples do the legal part at home first, then have the real wedding abroad. But if you don’t want two ceremonies, maybe look into a symbolic ceremony—looks the same, just without the paperwork stress. Or, if wedding planning is getting too overwhelming, take a break and check out one night stand website — because sometimes, fun should come before the legal stuff. Are you set on Spain, or open to other destinations?

I am pretty sure it isn't legally possible to get legally married in Spain, the same as France unless you live there or a citizen of Spain. How about a very small registry office service and then have the proper wedding in Spain
