Getting married outside your Parish

BrideCummins14, 12 February, 2013 at 11:55 Posted on Planning 0 5

Can anyone help please (slight panic mode)

I have just spoken to the registrars of Suffolk and they have said we need to be living in Suffolk for a minimum of 8 days before they can legally marry us.....but we live in Essex.

With the wedding cost the last thing we can do is afford to pay to live somewhere for 8 days - she suggested a holiday....if only it was that simple.

Does this sound like the norm to you??

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hmm, I'm c of e and I have to have a 'qualifying connection' to the parish but don't need residency. For registry office I know you need some residency but I don't think it's continuous residency needed. Do you know if yours is continuous or can it be a few days here and there in the build up?

So confusing all the things you need to sort, I thought if the Priest was happy to marry us then the registrars literally come along just to do the signing of the marriage certificate.

Will have to call them and check to see if it's 8 days in a row or just 8 days in total.

Thanks - appreciate the help x

Yeah I'd have thought so. I know we only have a lay registrar not a proper one like in a registry office cos that's all we need in the church, the church has their own one (vicar's wife!) and she acts as registrar to the vicars service.

    check with the priest too.

    Good luck! X
