Getting Power into a Marquee

Mitsimo, 5 March, 2011 at 12:48 Posted on Planning 0 1

We've hired our village hall plus the field next door, where we're putting up 2 mongolian yurts. We're not sure whether we can run power our of the village hall with extension leads, or whether we need to get a generator. We've got a DJ who needs 4 sockets, caterers need 2 sockets, and sockets for lighting for the tents & fairy lights. Does anyone out there know?? Thanks!!

Speak to the Marquee company. They will know what to do.

Running potentially 8 mains cables from the hall to the marquee will cause its own problems, as normal domestic extension cables are not rated for outside use (even though we probably all use them in our own gardens). The are also not rated for protection from people/cars driving over them.

Unless the distances is only a few meters (which I doubt), you'll need specialist advice.

It sounds like you'll need a generator. Inform them what your requirements are (ie your post above should be fine).

Possibly phone around first, so you have an idea of prices before you speak to the Marquee company.

You need a generator, that is properly earthed, with a decent waterproof outdoor distribution board (even if it is sited in the marquee), and proper waterproof outdoor connectors and sockets

You need to know what is connected to it.. especially in terms of the kitchen, lighting and bands, you then need a generator rated high enough to run everything
