Giving notice of marriage...

Marysmsmt, 17 December, 2012 at 16:13 Posted on Planning 0 17

....we gave our notice today- and they interviewed us in the same room!!! ?

What was the point of that?! They asked me everything first, then repeated everything to V, who obviously knew all the answers since i'd just said them!!

Still mega exciting though! All feeling real now!

Yey!! I remember I felt really excited after we'd given notice, it's like the first "official" thing you do isn't it?!

Ours didn't interview us at the same time but they "did" me first and then I sat in the room while hubby-to-be was asked. I think it really does depend on the registrar that you see as clearly they do have some discretion over how strict they need to be!

How odd! We had separate interviews and then one together. Tbh, when I had mine (I went in second) she told me my fiance's DOB instead of asking me it, which I thought a bit strange.

at least it is all done now tho Smiley smile

Yeah ours was the same! The registrar said to us, they tend to interview people separately if they think it could be a 'sham' marriage!

Glad to know they didn't think we were a sham!!! Probably because I took DS with us and it was taking both of us to keep him entertained!

We were interviewed separately....I wouldn't say we particularly give off a sham marriage vibe!

I didn't think we did either, especially as we took our 3 month old son!

Anyway, the formalities are done and on with the planning Smiley smile

I was only joking in response to the person who said the registrar told them they interview people seperately if they suspect a sham... sorry if I offended anyone <foot in mouth>

    I'm a bit nervous - I don't know what giving notice is!

We're getting married in CoE and we met with the vicar about 2 months ago to fill in a form and will meet him again on Valentines' day, but I haven't heard of giving notice.

Sorry to be a pain, but there are people here with longer to go so I'm panicking!

Hi, It isn't crazy questions (when I did mine anyway) just stuff like their name, address, DOB, whether they have been married before, more official stuff than trying to discover a scam wedding. But it possibly depends on your nationality?

Hi, I don't know the rules with religious/church weddings? I think it's different...??

But we had to give notice of our intent to wed (well, civil partnership but same thing) at our local registry office. It's got to be done within a year of getting married I think. And they put your names up on display for 15 days to let the public contest it apparently!!

They asked.. my name, DOB, address, occupation. Then W2B's same. Then made her do all the same for us both! Was too funny cos she had all the answers cos i'd literally just given them!

If you're having a Church of England wedding, you don't need to give notice - your vicar will cover that with the reading of your Banns. You only need to give notice if you're having a civil ceremony or (usually) getting married in any other church.

For the person who asked what questions you get asked - it's nothing very tricky. Some places will interview you/document check you together, others will separate you. You need to know your OH's DoB, job, and his father's name and job, I think that's all. If you or your OH are not British citizens, that's when it gets a bit more complicated.
