Giving out save the dates at engagement party?

VintageGal, 18 September, 2014 at 11:16 Posted on Planning 1 8

OH & I are thinking of having an engagement party in november, we are also thinking of getting married in around a year. I am looking at ways to cut costs & i was thinking about getting a save the date stamp which i can stamp onto brown luggage lables..

(having an engagement party sounds extravagant, but we would have it somewhere with no hire charge, just a minimum spend & i don't think we would put any/much food on, so i am thinking it'll be practically free)

Most expensive part of this is the postage, so i'm thinking of having these at the engagement party so most don't need to be posted out. What do you guys think? We would make a big deal at the party and announce the date asking everyone to take one.

Everyone we would invite to the engagement party would be invited to the wedding, whether it be day or eve guests.

If you're going to announce the date, why do you need Save The Date cards? Aren't these just a way of announcing the date from a distance?

You also need to be careful about telling everyone the date and giving them a save the date - what if everyone assumes they are day guests?

I would normally recommend sending different save the dates and save the evenings if someone was to post them out so you might need to think about that.

We had stamp save the dates and decided to send them in christmas cards as were getting married in December just after Xmas. We sent ours very early but everyone was really chuffed to have the luggage tag fall out their cards :-)

Ps we got ours from not on the high street but I would recommend getting the tags from a craft shop as they were quite expensive off the supplier we used!

Yes, they will put it in a pocket, or a drawer and forget they had it!

If you are doing an announcement at the engagement party, make a big thing of it by saying "right everyone, take out your phones and put this date in your diary....set yourself an alarm so you don't forget it.....and get your glad rags ready to party with us on.......at.........!"

    or something.

Good point about the day/evening thing. I wouldn't want someone to get excited, then find they're only an evening guest.

We gave our save the dates out at our engagement party. However we only had a small get together, and all the people that were there are going to be invited as day guests.
