Glassware and wine

Victoria, 9 May, 2022 at 19:46 Posted on Planning 0 2
Hi all, I am having trouble with my wedding venue they have been messing me about a lot and the last thing they have come to me with (with only 6 weeks to go) is the cost of the wine for the wedding breakfast, which is extortionate. We can provide our own wine which we can get for a good price there is no corkage charge but we have to supply our own glasses. Now my question is how many glasses do we actually need?

We have 58 people for the wedding breakfast (52 adults and 3 children and 3 babies)
I’m thinking about supplying 1 standard wine glass per person and 1 tumbler for water or beer as we will have some cans available. But my other half thinks we need more than this? What do you think?
In my mind we have 52 people who may drink wine so maybe 80 wine glasses to be on the safe side and 60 tumblers?
I don’t see the point of giving everyone 2 wine glasses (one for red and one for white) but is this something people expect? I have never thought about this at a wedding! I just picked my wine and pour! But maybe I am wrong!

Oh that’s a tricky one. I think traditionally there would only be one wine glass on a table setting and if people were switching from red to wine for instance than I suppose they would ask staff to get them a clean glass. But that would be at your cost I suppose now they are saying this. Are you having a toast so do you need champagne flutes too? Can’t they offer glass hire, it’s all a bit cheeky at this late stage too- just adds unnecessary stress. Good luck getting it sorted out

1 per person plus a few to be safe. Call it 60. Not everyone will drink wine, but a few will misplace their glass or there could be breakages. Almost no one is going to have both red and white, and if they do, I doubt they’ll be too put out by drinking them from the same glass!
