Going away present ideas for nephew.

Vanilla Pod, 30 August, 2012 at 17:31 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

As some of you already know my nephew is off to start university in America next week. Eeeek. Its come around so quickly. He is going on a football (soccer!) scholarship. I want to get him something as a little goodbye/remember home/or something useful but I'm not sure what. I've already bought him some of the books and the accompanying cliffs notes from his English reading list, and we gave him his 18th birthday money in dollars. We have a big family, so I'm sure a lot of people will be doing the same so I dont want to overload him, as I know he will have a lot to carry. He will have his own dorm room and access to a kitchen etc. He also passed his driving test yesterday! Yay! (That has nothing to do with the pressie, just proud!)

Any ideas? I cant belive my baby godson is off to see the world! He leaves on our first anniversary too and I wont even be here to see him off I'll be in Barcelona!

A diary/journal? Some nice writing paper and envelopes so he can send some letters home? A St Christopher (patron saint of travellers/travelling - and is apparently especially revered by athletes so Wiki tells me)?

Tray you are ace! Sorry I was away mooning over sentimental totally inapropriate non boyish Bon voyage cards on Etsy! Some lovely ideas. I know my Mum (his nanny) has got him a St. Christopher medal, they are very close, she isn't taking this very well bless her. I'm thinking maybe the voucher and a photo of me and him from the wedding. Also took a lovely one of him with his Mum and Dad at his 18thnlast week I could get framed? I know when I was at uni I had a cork board in my room with photos all over it of family... but do kids these days still do that with facebook etc so available? Both photos are on facebook... How old do I sound?!!

Not a problem, I'll keep an eye out for more stuffs for you. And even if they do have them on faceyb, I'm sure he would love a "proper" copy

Does his college have a campus bookstore? You might be able to order a gift voucher for that online

He got a good watch as his 18th present from his Mum and Dad and has an ipod! Typical teen! Hmmm I dont think he has a camera... My H thinks I'm being silly as I've given him a fair amount of dollars but I just want him to go with everything he could possibly need/want!

Thats a really good idea!! Then he can get all his little start off shopping essentials, (that your mum would norma, lly send you off to uni with ☹️ I'll do him a list too!) I think that and the photos in a double frame and we have cracked it! You are a star! ?

In that case, how about a framed photo of their trophy cabinet?

How about some old English favourites like tea bags etc? Things he may miss when he's over there?
