Gold glitter and spray paint!

katieJ2b, 26 April, 2016 at 11:48 Posted on Planning 0 15

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good gold spray paint and nice sparkly gold glitter? There are so many different shades and brands and you can't always tell what the colour is going to come out like.

Has anyone got any pictures of their DIY projects using gold spray or gold glitter so I can see the finished result? I am looking for more of a dull gold, rather than the bright yellow gold - if you know what I mean?

Thanks in advance!x

Probably not much help but I've been using Wilko's own brand silver spray paint and found it has a really good coverage and finish and is a lot cheaper than other brands. They do a gold version too - http://www.wilko.com/metal-and-specialist-paint/wilko-enamel-spray-400ml-metallic-gold/invt/0413843

Ohh, this is fab, thank you! Just out of interestwhat kind of things have you been spraying? I've got some photo frames to spray - first in the long list of items (I feel I'm going to get carried away and become Goldmember from Austin Powers!) - just wondered whether I needed to think about using a primer??!

Exactly what I was going to say! 'Antique Gold' seems to be less 'Yellow' than just 'gold' in my experience of sourcing all things 'not too in your face yellow but still gold' (Though not spray paint... yet!) ?

Antique gold! That's it thank you!! Seen so many colours and shades it's making me go bananas!! They can be quite expensive so don't really want to waste money if I can help it.

I used antique gold spray for Aldi was on offer for dirt cheap, as always you can't always get stuff in aldi but keep an eye out for it. I spraying everything in sight to jar lids, mason jars and frames etc. I also made glitter table numbers and mason jars and old candles. I use modge podge like someone else and then got my glitter from amazon and ebay super cheap. I mixed in light and dark gold, plus some holographic silver because it really makes it twinkle it's beautiful. I got some pics but not great quality. I will upload more soon.

Ok so on amazon here is what I got and I mixed all 3 together in a pot. I'd advise to get two tubberwear containers, one small to put the glitter into and a large one that you can hold your item over so that the excess glitter falls into the larger container and you can reuse. I just bought one of each and have tons and still got a bit left.

I've also mixed this in for the glitter table numbers as well just to make it a bit chunkier and sparkly.

🖌️ Best Gold Spray Paint Options

When you’re looking for a dull gold rather than bright yellow gold, try these finishes:

Antique Gold Spray Paint – gives a more muted, vintage gold look rather than shiny bright gold.
Satin or Matte Gold Spray – not too shiny, perfect for décor that’s elegant without the bling.
Brushed Gold Finish – subtle shimmer with less reflective shine.

💡 Brand ideas: Rust-Oleum, Krylon, and Montana both make good gold variants. When buying, look for words like antique, brushed, or satin in the finish name.

    ✨ Sparkly Gold Glitter Picks

For glitter, it depends on how sparkly you want the end result:

🔸 Fine-cut gold glitter – gives a delicate shimmer (great for classy projects)
🔸 Medium gold glitter – balanced shine, catches light well
🔸 Chunky gold glitter – really sparkly and bold

Pro Tip: Mix fine and medium glitter together for a textured, rich sparkle that still looks elegant.

    📸 Finished Project Ideas

Here are some ways people use gold spray paint and glitter:

🟡 Painted picture frames with antique gold spray and a dusting of fine glitter for subtle sparkle.
🟡 Mason jars with a glitter gradient — more glitter at the bottom fading up.
🟡 Wooden letters coated in satin gold spray, then highlighted with medium glitter around the edges.

🧠 Quick Tips Before You Start

✔ Always test paint colors on scrap material — photos online can look different in real life.
✔ Spray in thin coats — better coverage and less drips.
✔ Seal glitter with clear spray or Mod Podge so it stays put.

I’ve been exploring different ways to improve the visual appeal of social media captions, and using aesthetic text really makes a difference. It helps content stand out without changing the message itself. This article explains the concept clearly and is useful for anyone who wants their text to look more creative and engaging across platforms.
