Green and Red Flags in Suppliers

Natasha, 8 May, 2024 at 15:23 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 1

Just getting properly stuck in with starting to look into quotes and get things booked and was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what to look out for in terms of good suppliers and signs you should avoid them.

Any advice would be great! Just want the best, least stressful day we can create.

Red Flags I would say be weary of pretty much anyone who only has Facebook as an online presence. And especially so for people calling themselves photographers.

look out for "styled shoots" as these are basically fake weddings so the person can get some fantastic shots - and they will, using models in a very controlled conditions. This is rife on instagram at the moment.

I have seen a lot recently of workshops sometimes photographers who pay to practice shooting. Models are hired for the shoot dressed as a bride and groom. The shots are then posted on social media/ used on website without necessarily saying that they are actually a fake wedding.

Along with the post may be something like "loving the bridal colours here" These shoots could last a couple of hours or a whole morning or afternoon.

To spot one, sometimes they may mention a whole list of the other suppliers on the shoot which is a good giveaway. Or there are no guests anywhere, table settings set up for 12 people rather that a whole room. No registrars seen anywhere, and always its just the bride and groom with no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Yes the shots look fantastic but its not real and could of taken hours - considering the usual amount of time for ALL photos is 1.5 hours.

Another one is people who have only shot as a second shooter - you will see loads of detail shots or candid shots and then when it is the couple they are clearly looking at someone else.

Then think about lock down when basically not much happened for 2 years so if someone is saying they have been shooting for 4 years then that actually really means 2 years.

Ask to see whole weddings and do not just go by he brilliant looking controlled shots on any social media.

Someone asking for full payment at time of booking is one of the "redest flags" you can get especially if it is combined with an offer of a disount.

Finally have a look at a facebook group called wedding scammers don't let them win and also one called Wedding scams, brides & companies to be aware of
