Sort of inspired by Emmanumbers post.

We went to an evening reception recently. We really should have thought twice when we received the invite. The couple had added a little letter asking for precense not presents, but of course money towards their honey moon would be nice. When we arrived I congratulated the bride (groom nowhere to be seen) and went to hand her an envelope to which she sort of waved me off and said 'the present box is over there'. Later on in the evening a friend of ours caught up with the Groom and asked him where they would be going on honeymoon to which he charmingly replied 'Anywhere that she isn't going' and stormed off. What a lovely do. We made an early exit.

I could add more but it would just be catty, and to be honest I blame myself for not being a little more discerning. Does anyone else what to share a grim wedding story?

Luckily we missed out on that because we'd relocated and H didn't pass on his contacts to the groom! I'll have to remember to ask him if he heard anything about the wedding itself ...

My friends wedding was a bit of a shocker. The wedding itself was fine, reception venue was nice with lovely food. By the time the speeches came round though the best man was slaughtered. He spent 20 minutes rambling on incoherently, telling inappropriate jokes and just generally dying on his arse. Then at the end of the night, the groom brother and the brides father had a fight and everyone piled in. The bride had arranged a buffet lunch at a local pub for friends and family the next day - her family boycotted it and the groom was still in bed with a hangover so it was just her and a few mates. Poor girl.

The worst one that i went to was about 3 months ago, we didn't really know the bride and only knew the groom as a friend of a friend kind of thing but as they didn't seem to have many people going we got invited.

It started badly in the church when the vicar said that he would "breast the rings" rather than "bless the rings" then he started going on about how they would be making love on this day ?

There was no sit-down reception as such and so it went from the wedding which was at 2pm and then straight to the evening bit, luckily H and I went home in between and didn't go back until about 8pm, but some people had gone straight to the reception venue where there was no food available until the buffet was opened at 8.30. My friend who was bridesmaid was practically passing out due to having had nothing to eat.

During the evening reception the bride was sat at the top table counting the money that they'd been given as gifts.

The buffet was your bog standard sandwiches affair, the sandwiches were all stale.

Great thread, some fabulously bad stories!

My sister was invited to a friend's wedding where they asked for money in lieu of gifts and explained that they expected £x from everyone as that's what they'd spent on the wedding...

The worst wedding we went to was one of H's friends. Lovely church wedding but followed by the reception in a community hall, warm bucks fizz when we arrived but then we had to buy all other drinks and the bar only had wine on tap which was revolting. Buffet with not enough food for everyone, seated at formica topped tables and on plastic chairs. If we'd known one of us would have driven instead of paying for a cab home!

I was invited once to a wedding where the invitation included a gift list, and bank details. It also stated that to attend the day you had to pay £25 for your food! I'd love to tell you how it went but sadly i didn't attend due to the above!

My friend's Dad got so pissed that he curled up on a settee at the Reception and went to sleep and pretty much missed the whole thing.

    She was livid ?

Town hall. The lights go down and a flash light centers on two woman who come out looking like drag queens dressed as Abba. They continue to lip sync to Abbas greatest hits album while doing a dance routine.

One was the bride and the other her mother in law. Bride wore her Abba outfit for the rest of the evening.

I would have found it hilarious if i didn't hate Abba so much.
