Groom's speech - Bride's parents divorced

slauder, 16 April, 2010 at 13:29 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hey

Looking for some advice on this. My B2B's parents are divorced. Her Father has remarried, and her Mother has a long-term partner. What's the best way to thank the Bride's parents without offending anyone?

Thanks,

Stuart

Think of them as two separate individuals. You can avoid addressing them as the "bride's parents", but even if you do I don't think it's going to be a huge issue. Just make sure you do not say something that's embarrassing. The best way to do that is to write your groom speech in advance and review it carefully to ensure everything is okay.

...and on a light hearted note; don't refer to them as 'second/new mum' or 'second/new dad' at any point during the day - my brother's wife did this quite frequently and ended up really annoying my mum and dad, not to mention making my step-parents feel uncomfortable...it's not surprising she's now my brother's ex-wife! lol Smiley winking
