Groom's suit/tie colour *help*

Natalielousie, 3 June, 2014 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hello ladies,

Hoping you can give me some ideas...

The boys suits are a 3 piece dark blue trendy suit and my BMs are in very pale pink. I'm wearing am ivory (although it looks white to me!) dress...

so what colour ties should we get? I'm not sure whether my H2B should wear pink and the others (best man, dads etc) wear ivory or the other way around or introduce another complimentary colour i.e pale peach or green but again which way around...groom in colour or ivory?!

Would appreciate some input on this! ??

    What colours are your flowers?

Initially I thought your groom to match you and the boys match the BM's but I'm presuming his shirt is white so it might look quite flat with an ivory tie.

I'm having the same! Navy blue suits, pink bridesmaids dresses (which I'm still trying to find!!) and pink ties for the boys to match the BM's. OH's tie will be ivory to match my dress. We're all having pink & white flowers and button holes.

Ha ha how funny that we have an identical colour theme! My flowers will primarily be pale pinks, ivory and some pale peach and the boys button holes are white, pale pink and foliage. And yes he'll be wearing a white shirt...I did think ivory would be lost against the white shirt but I don't know what other colour he could have. I thought 'traditionally' that the other men matched the BM and the groom matched me.... Hhhhmmm

"Traditionally" I think people just used to all go with the same colour tie, going by my parents' wedding photos - then the groom had a different/ more elaborate buttonhole.

I think either that way or ivory for the groom and pink for the others would look very smart.

Ideally my OH is going to wear a slim fit 3 piece suit in black and I want him to wear a black tie rather than to match me. He was actually the one to suggest that the groomsmen should match the bridesmaids so it looks like they'll be having pale pink.

Your OH could have dark blue to match his own suit?

Your OH could have a dark blue shirt or a pale pink one, that way the ivory tie will stand out.

An ivory tie on a white shirt probably won't be distinctive enough, the ivory would just get lost on the white, although you can get a champagne ivory which is darker - that won't match your dress though.

The ideal colour based on everything else you've said is pale pink to go with the flowers and BM's, but even if everyone is wearing pale pink there are still ways to distinguish the groom from the others. You could have the groom in a skinny tie (which is just slightly narrower than a regular width tie) and everyone else in regular ties - this is quite a popular option. The groom could also have a pocket square / handkerchief if you're not having buttonholes.

My H2B is in a navy suit too, and has bought a peach tie and pocket square from Swagger and Swoon.

My dress is oyster, and the bridesmaids are expected to be in raspberry. My son, who is giving me away is looking for a dark grey suit, and wants a silver grey tie and pocket square (again from Swagger and Swoon - check them out, they are superb!).

It may sound as though my mis-match of colours is quite wrong, but actually it all really works. So my advice would be don't fret too much about it - no one will look as amazing as you do anyway, and the ties will all be abandoned part way through the reception! If the groom has a completely different colour to the others, or it doesn't match the bridesmaids, don't worry about it - if he looks good in it, if the others look good in theirs, if you look good in your dress etc etc etc then everyone will, well, look good!!!
