Guest book question - how many?

SunnyYellowDiamonds86514, 5 June, 2022 at 18:02 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi,

I would really appreciate some advice! We're hiring a DJ for the evening party with the photobooth included and they will provide us with a photobook and some pens for people to put pictures and write some fun messages in. We're also thinking that we should have another guest book for earlier on the day put at the reception table - which will have our engagement photos and some selfies from our travels over the years, and for people to write their wishes in.

I've seen on Reddit that some people forego the guest book altogether, or some people that had one ended up only having a few pages filled.

Any thoughts on this? Should we do both guestbooks or leave the reception one out?

We had the Photobooth one as well and that was it, we felt it was all we needed, as we also had cards from people so made sense to just have the one. the only thing i would say is if your booth is not attended you may want to put a sign to say this is the guest book, so please put your photos and messages in it. It took about an hour for me to actually realise it was there and no one knew as the attendant we were supposed to have did not stay! We got the DJ to announce that the guest book was there and we got a great selection of pics and messages

You can definitely do more than one thing. My videographer is doing us a video guest book. He will go round to everyone at the wedding and ask them to say something, which will be edited into a guest book video.

As a little extra I am also getting an LED tree to go on a table as decoration and asking everyone to sign their name on a wooden heart and hang it on the tree. I will then put all the hearts in a box frame and hang it on a wall in our home as a memory of the day.

So there is no reason you cant do both guestbooks, so everyone at your wedding writes you a little note. But maybe it might be worse considering doing it in one big book and just get someone to move it from earlier in the day to the evening reception, so you have it all in one rather than split across 2. You will also reduce the likelihood of having 2 half empty books.

I think having two guest books could actually work nicely since they serve different purposes. The one at the reception lets guests leave thoughtful messages earlier in the day, while the photo booth book usually captures more fun and spontaneous moments later on. Personal touches like your travel photos will probably encourage more people to write something. I work with written content quite a bit, including in book editing and proofreading service projects, and one thing I’ve noticed is that people respond more when something feels personal and easy to engage with.
