Guestbook ideas - unusual keepsake ones

cinnamon009, 6 May, 2014 at 13:37 Posted on Planning 0 11

This is the only thing which I really can't decide on. The theme is old Hollywood glamour, so I could go for the straight option of a book decorated on the front in the theme colours but I wanted something that will make a nice keepsake afterwards, not stuck in drawer.

If I went for a wishing tree what do you do with all the tags after wedding? I was also toying of the old typewriter like below, but aside from finding one have the same issue - what do you do with all the pages that people type out?

Ideas all you lovely hitchers?

I think you'd stick all those sheets into a scrapbook.

My own favourite guest book idea is the jigsaws made by this company: http://inspiremedesigns.co.uk/wedding-guest-book-puzzles/

I really want a puzzle guest book because it's something a bit different and we can frame it afterwards.

ETA - Cross posted, the link above are the ones I like.

We had a fingerprint tree with a signing board around the edge. Unfortunately it took a while for people to realise they could actually write around the edge so we didn't get that many messages but we're going to ask the ones who didn't write to leave us a message next time they're round.

    Sorry the picture isn't great!

I love the guest book puzzles - I just think they are a bit expensive at £60.

J9 I'm loving the fingerprint tree - I could then use the frame I'm getting for the table plan to put it in afterwards. Print my own tree and buy the signing board cheap from Hobbycraft. Where did you get the fingerprint ink from? Did it get on everything....like a sparkly white dress I'll be wearing.....?

The puzzles are ace and I love fingerprint trees. If the theme is old Hollywood glamour, what about a film poster (thinking ‘Brief Encounter’ or some other romantic film)? You could have a printer blow it up and put a white or grey frame around it for people to right on, then frame and hang it afterwards.

I'm having this personalised guest book from Not on the High Street. It's personalised with a map of where we're getting married x

We're going for paper bunting that we'll pin up in our house after the day

This is a brilliant idea. If you had the budget, you could use a picture of you & OH and make a mock vintage movie poster (your wedding date as the release date etc), then either get people to sign the poster directly (like movie stars do when they autograph posters) or put a mount around it and get people to sign that.

Or you could do something along the movie-reel theme, either get people to take polaroid photos & write messages on those, which you could then put in a movie-reel style photoframe (like the one below from Ikea) or create your own movie-reel style guestbook and get people to sign it directly.

I'm loving this idea now! Shame my theme (if I have one) is more English country garden in spring.

Ooo, I love the idea of the happy couple in the film poster - I might just do this to hang in my house!

The movie reel idea is great too - or something with mini clapboards and chalk board paint?!

Not sure how you'd tie it into your theme (and you seem to have lots of ideas on that front now - well done Hitchers!) but if you're looking for a functional twist on a guest book, we've bought a dictionary and are going to make bookmarks with "Word" and "Message" on, so each person can choose a word of their choice (be it something they wish for us, something that reminds them of us, and no doubt in the case of my brother something just plain rude) - put it on the bookmark along with a message and then circle the word in the dictionary and slot the bookmark into the appropriate page. Not only does it go very well with our school theme but also a dictionary is something every home needs! I get very excited at the thought of sitting down with Little DeeBees in a few years time to help them with their homework and using our special wedding dictionary to do it!

PS - I may have stolen this idea from another Hitcher so apologies if I did and that person is here!

We are having postcards as our guestbook (having got a job lot of random ones off ebay). Not sure if that would fit with your theme though - the earlier ideas are probably better suited
