Hair and make up

Gemma, 20 December, 2020 at 20:27 Posted on Planning 0 6
Hi Wedding Hive :-)

Just in the process of looking for hair and make up artist for our wedding - is it expected that apart from myself - I should arrange hair and make up for both mothers and the bridesmaids? Just trying to factor in costs etc

I’m paying for my bridesmaids and my mum. I don’t think there is a rule but I’ve always known I’d pay for their dresses and hair/makeup as it’s for my benefit plus is a nice gift.

I got prices for me, my 3 girls, mob & mog. Mog turned it down which surprised me.

I think it’s best to include both mothers in initial quotes then confirm when you pay the deposit.

In general, brides pay for the bridesmaids if they have a specific 'look' in mind. If you're not worried about what hairstyle or makeup they wear, then it's not necessary, but it's a nice gesture to offer to both bridesmaids and mothers if you can afford it.

I’ve been bullied into it a bit. I had hair and make-up for all (me, bridesmaids, MOB and MOG) as a ‘nice to have if there is budget left’ but MOG decided that her daughters (bridesmaids) need their hair professionally done, so if I don’t arrange it they will be heading off to the salon, rather than getting ready with me at the venue (and helping with logistics/ decoration) so I am having to re-budget to make sure we can fit it in.

You shouldn’t feel bullied into it. That’s not fair on you or your fiancé. If you can’t afford it rather than put yourself out maybe get a quote for them to get ready with you but get MOG to pay for it?
You get the support and they get their hair done... win win

I would love to do this, but I hate conflict and fiancé’s family don’t really talk about things like my family would, so he would prefer to just pay! Anyway, it will be nice to have everyone’s hair and makeup done, it’s just unexpectedly shot up the priority list, so we’ve got a bit less contingency budget for venue decoration and that sort of thing.
