I am seriously considering doing my own make up. I don't normally wear a lot anyway and I haven't found anyone within a suitable budget so I am going to use my budget to stock up on my favourite make up brands (those I use when I do wear it!) and practice with them and do my own.

My hair I am definitely having done, I have been going to my hairdressers since I was 5ish so it's only right they do my hair for my big day!

I was going to do my own hair but my sister/MOH wasn't comfortable with it, one of the other bridesmaids is already doing the make up and it did just seem to make sense to take some pressure off. I haven't had a trial yet but the examples on her website were good and she was lovely on the phone so am probably going to book a trial, very reasonable (I think she said £20 for trial) and since all bridesmaids live a bit of a distance from me I thought I would get her to do both mine and the bridesmaids on me (and maybe a third option just to see if she will 🤫) I am in the south West though so prices here for everything seem much more reasonable. There r however some fantastic DIY wedding hair tutorials on YouTube that with practice r definitely doable.

You could try contacting local hairdressers who don't specialise in 'wedding hair' and asking them what they charge for a simple updo. I was being quoted into 3 figures by 'wedding hair' people for a simple low bun (that was with me driving to the salon on the wedding morning!) when they were charging £20-£30 for 'prom updos'. My local hairdresser ended up doing a bun for £10.

I am shocked by the prices in the wedding industry in general but hair and make up artists are definitely outside my budget. I'm definitely looking into youtube tutorials and just local hairdressers for an updo as the ladies above have suggested.

I did my own make up, but had my hair for the ceremony done by my usual hair dresser. For my reception a couple of days later I stuck it up in a bun myself and added my hair accessory.

There's the option of a make up lesson at a make up counter such as Chalotte Tilbury or MAC? If you buy a couple of products it can obe cost effective.
Whatever you do, get a good setting spray! They do make a difference to how your make up lasts for the day. Boots and ASOS often stock travel sizes to cut the cost if its not something you'd use all the time.
