I think you are going to have to tread a remarkably fine line with this theme, to avoid it becoming tacky. Halloween makes people think of fancy dress and other cheesiness. What you do not want, under any circumstances, is purple witches.

I had a quick look around for some ideas. I was thinking that if you could draw some vintage style into it, you might get away with it as a 'tasteful' rather than 'tacky' thing. There are some wonderful old illustrations out there, with various aspects of Halloween depicted. If you stick with 'classic' rather than 'fun' images, you could pull it off. Think gorgeous line drawings of pumpkins, cats and ravens rather than cheesy devils and witches.

I'm not keen on the carved pumpkins you are looking to create (another thread) IF you are going to the standard Jack O'Lantern face. I actually think pumpkins are very decorative in themselves and could be used, untouched, with lots of greenery, as centrepieces. Something to consider is that some people (me!) can feel a bit sick at the smell of raw pumpkin, although that might be rare indeed!

Also, not keen on the cake - like it in theory but the message, while trying to be fun, might be a little dark for a wedding. Gothic good, messages about death less so!

    Hi

@ForTheLoveOfMrsBrown - thank you for your ideas, I will definately look into it. With regard to the carved pumpkins, I will be doing a couple of the original halloween theme, but am looking to have something like love hearts or a pair of rings etc carved into them - something with a love / wedding theme.

The pumpkins won't necessarily be inside, we have a seated area thats attached to our room and am hoping to put them around the seating area outside. I don't want it too scary, as there will be young children there, so I won't be having witches etc hanging from ceilings.

Whilst I do want a halloween feel to it, I also want it to be quite elegant / classy - I'm not sure how classy or elegant halloween can be but certainly the colours can be very classy such as the autumn colours - rich oranges, reds and browns which I've had some great ideas.

The cake is very different and I know it won't be to most peoples tastes, I did like the fun side to it and it takes a line out of the wedding vows, which is a little strange - but I am strange lol.

I love the idea of the post cars and might use those for table names / place names / escort cards

    Thank you x

If you were thinking of pumpkin centrepieces then adding some ribbon/lace/vines could keep it classy rather than tacky. White pumpkins might work better than bright orange ones. I found these after a quick google.

I am doing some lace ones to go outside for our wedding. One in white, one in black. I just have to hope there are some small pumpkins in Asda the day before the wedding!

Cant say I am a massive fan of the cake and it kind of contradicts what you say about not wanting to scare small children that you have coming as it made me jump back a little when it flashed up on my screen in full size.

The halloween theme I thinks is great, I think you can make it classy with out it being tacky so long as you dont go over the top with it, the pumpkins with hearts and things sounds very nice as does the colours, I would just have a few halloween things here and there mixed in with some other bits to tie it all together.

I was a Halloween bride last year. Can't help much with the "tasteful" bit though as i had a Hello Kitty theme to my wedding ?

I love the lace pumpkins. Sorry, but I hate the cake - the message is fine, the style is fine, but the skull on top - no thanks! And I'm not even squeamish - I deal with death on pretty much a daily basis at work. Some of the other cakes are pretty though, especially the ones with the pumpkins on top Smiley smile

Love this cake! Chocywokydodah right? I would have had one myself if we to married in this country! I think you need lots of candles and White pumpkins and orange and burgundy roses. Also the candy buffet would work really well with the theme or you could do candy/chocolate/ toffee apples as favors with home made gift tags.

You could use apples as place card holders ( think snow white and poisiond apple) with Blake candle/crayon wax dripped on them to signify the poison - I'm sure if you asked, I could ome up with loads more, just off the top of my head!

    Hi

Yes the cake I did see on Choccywoccydoodah and I have contacted. them about the cake. I don't think the cake will scare the kids tbh. I know its not everyone's cup of tea but it is very me and the other half is happy with it. TBH I don't care if the guests like it, when most people see it they will laugh as they know me well enough. Some of the ideas people have given me have been fab - well most of the ideas have been fab. I've been writing them all down and have saved the pics and then Paul and I can go through and see what we both want. I definately want the pumpkins, I have loved the white with the black lace - very different, but i do also want some traditional pumpkins too. Paul doesn't want it way over the top with the halloween theme, but I'm sure once we start putting things together he will see that it will fit great and love it as much as me.

CoolArtist I would love your input, I don't take offence easily and I wouldn't fall out with anyone just because they don't approve or like my ideas and vice versa. So if you think you have any ideas no matter how small - please feel free to contact me and thank you all so very much for all your input xxx
