Has anybody got a Rangemaster cooker?

Purple Pixie, 9 January, 2009 at 11:07 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

We need to buy a new cooker for when we move into our new house. We've always had built-in appliances before but with me doing a lot more cooking recently we've decided that we'll splash out (with a built of help from IOU Christmas presents ?) on a rangestyle cooker.

I like the look of this one:

https://www.rangemaster.co.uk/ in black, but OH thinks it's a bit old-fashioned looking

I also liked the spec of this one but in the shop it looks a bit tacky (giant knobs(!), poor quality writing/print)/404-page-not-found

or there's this one: /404-page-not-found

But now OH is worried that a black oven will look odd. We'll have light wood coloured units (can't remember exactly), fridgefreezer is silver, microwave is stainless steel, washing machine is white but when we can afford a new one we'll get an in-built one.

This is the best silver/stainless steel one I can find but I don't know whether it looks a) too hard to keep clean or b) too industrial:

Has anybody got any thoughts?

Thanks

I think my mum and dad have this one /404-page-not-found

They had another one before it (same make I think, slightly different model and dual fuel) and it lasted them about 5 years before it started breaking down. They had quite a few probs with this one but they eventually got fixed and the place they bought it from said they are usually very reliable but not sure how true that is ?

They have pine units and it looks lovely with the black and now works perfectly. We have a range style cooker (also ceramic hob) but cheaper and stainless steel which I'm very happy with.

    Thanks jaz.

It doesn't have to be a Rangemaster one but I really like the fact that they've got one big oven and then a tall, thinner one (but still big enough to get normal size baking trays in).

Does it have to be the 90cm one? My mum is having a new kitchen done next month and is having the Kitchener 110 in black (with cream painted doors and oak worktops). I liked the Excel 110 but mum wanted a more 'traditional' style one.

A friend of mine has the Toledo (the steel one) and it is very nice, not too industrial at all. I'd go for that one myself.

I have the professional 90cm - They are one of the few with two ovens in the 90cm size. It fitted our spec perfectly - separate grill, large oven and smaller oven. Also we wanted to be sure there were not too many crevices on the top for dirt to get stuck into. This is one of the best for this as well. We have white units and the whole steel set up looks fine with a warm coloured wooden floor.

We've been very happy with it - we did have some problems with the elements (one went in the middle of a dinner party!!) but I think they have changed the design since as the ones we replaced them with had three coils and not two that the original had. My hubby is not technical at all and we managed to buy the spares and fit them ourselves!

It's lasted a good 6 years so far.

Thanks m-r. Do you think stainless steel would have been better then?

That's the one I have (90cm one) and I love it! It's not hard to keep clean at all and we have a s/s fridge/freezer too. We have oak units with black granite worktops and it looks fab. i was worried about the top being black and the rest being s/s but it looks great with the worktops.

    I would definitely recommend it.
