Has anyone bought from DFS?

Mal, 2 April, 2009 at 21:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

I googled for a photo of the sofa I have ordered from them as it's no longer on their site, and have found a load of nightmare stories about them, mainly about poor quality.

Have I made a massive mistake?

We bought our 3 and 4 seater leather sofas from DFS 5 years ago, great quality, no problems with them and they look as good now as they did when we bought them and theyre just as comfy. Ours were never one of the models in any of their 'sales' though. Ours were full price and never got put in a sale as I think they are more a classic design rather than fun and funky.

Our suite was from DFS, we had a lot of problems in the beginning. Once of the cushions on the 3 seater sank (not sure if thats the correct word) more than the other one. We got them out and they packed it, it just made it worse, it wasn't even comfortable to sit on. I called them out again and was told that you aren't supposed to lie down on the couch. This was just after a couple of months. I complained again and told them just to take it back and I would go somewhere else, (we got it on a buy now pay later deal), so it was before we started paying for it. Finally someone came back out and said it hadn't been fixed properly to begin with.

We've had the suite for about 7 years now and haven't had anymore problems. It's really comfy and still in really good condition but because of the problems at the start i would be a bit wary of going back to them.

We bought a cloth 3 seater sofa from them. The cushions were flat as a pancake within 2 years and DFS were uninterested in our complaint. We also paid for stain protection and yet when it was stained, the man came out and couldn't remove it, he admitted that a lot of stains can never be removed no matter what DFS say in their bumpf

Would never buy form them again

I have two sofas that we bought from there around 5-6 years ago (not sure now); both leather.

The dogs wrecked them (by 'digging' on them) so I have holes in the seats but otherwise they're fine - except the arm of one of them collapsed a bit when ex Mr Dief knelt on it with his full weight.

In other words - they've put up with some abuse but are still fine and comfortable.

We got two leather sofas from them about 8 years ago. We don't have them now, my mum does after her more expensive DFS sofa's looked shite. We had problems in the beginning, had to wait a stupid amount of weeks to get it in the first place then one of the bases went, then we found a small hole in it. The guy came out and they replaced both sofas. Second lot were ok but I don't think we'd buy from them again, we bought from homebase this time. At least if you buy cheap you're not disappointed when it breaks.

We bought a fabric suite a few years ago. I hate it with a passion - it isn't comfortable and needs a hell of a lot of fluffing to make the cushions look neat - they never feel comfortable though.

The base went after a few months, the fabric has faded and the actual cushions themselves seemed to have discoloured under the covers which has left a funny smell and black cushions. most odd.

A bit of a mixed bag there.

My problem is this.......I am now v worried re the quality and on reading the stuff in google, the only way out is if they go past their delivery time. Failing that, they are impossible to cancel with. They only give 2 days notice for delivery so I was going to get rid of my current suites by the end of the month, so that the new ones can just go right into place. But my friend has said she wants my sofas, asap, and I don't know whether to give her them to save me any trouble nearer the time. If I do that and they come and I like them, great. But if I get rid of them and they end up delayed (I have read about 6 month delays) then I am stuck without a suite. She needs one quickly, wants it next week, I said I would think it over and let her know. But if I need to wait then se needs to go buy a new one.

    Gahhhhhhhh!

We bought a 3 seat and a 2 seat leather reclining sofa in September 07, delivered late October/early November 07.

They're fabulous - really comfortable, delivery was early and we would absolutely buy from them again.

I'm glad we weren't the only ones who were given ridiculous advice. The base of ours went after just a few months and we were told that we were "sitting on it wrong." I told them how stupid that sounded and they weren't having any of it.

They took it in to fix it, which helped a bit. We had to have a replacement for a week and got this high-backed, red leather nightclub job ?

TBH, I wouldn't buy from them again as the quality overall is just not worth the money. The 'stain proofing' is a bit of a con, for example. But if you can't get out of it now, I'd wait and see how things go, as you may still find you have a good experience.

We've had an awful sofa from DFS, but we've still bought another one...

We got big fancy expensive sofas but the cushions sank and became so flat that they were really uncomfortable. Plus having big scatter cushions as the back of the sofa drove us utterly barmy. We were supposed to fluff them up every single night but after about a couple of months, the novelty of doing this wore off as it was a real faff. We also didn't have the time to really and didn't see why we should have to and they were starting to go flat regardless.

Second time round, despite swearing off DFS we went back to have another look and armed with experience (we needed the 0% finance deal) we have gone for simple sofa with normal backs and armchair but made sure the cushions were foam ones so they spring back up and this they do.

So whatever you do, avoid the microfibre/feather (I think) cushions that form a shape when you sit down, get foam. Then you'll have no trouble.

Another one that's had a DFS sofa and armchair with no problems. We've had it going on 5 years now I think and the only thing wrong with it is that it's badly overdue a clean. Their 0% finance deal was great for us as we paid off within the 2 years with no problems, the main thing I disliked about them was their selling tactics.

We got a cloth one from there about 3 years ago, it was a full price one and it still looks ok and is still really comfy. Its a light cream/biscuit colour (what was I thinking?) and our cat is black so it has gone a little bit less cream. I think that would have happened with any sofa though, so we`re pretty satisfied with ours.
