Has anyone ever ordered their Christmas Dinner from M&S?

Peaches, 17 November, 2008 at 18:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

My SIL did this last year and raved about it.

The last thing we all need this year is added stress, and it was a thought that we could have Christmas at my brother's house this year, rather than at Mum's. Long story, but just thinking of options.

There would be 7 of us, all adults. 3 pensioners, youngest being late 70s. Out of the 4 who can do the cooking, 3 of them are men. 2 of them can't cook. The one who can is severely depressed.

So that leaves me!

I've just done some digging and found this, which hasn't endeared me to the idea at all http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/archive-general/traditional-christmas-dinner/157773/

Any experiences, good or bad?

I have to admit we succumbed to an M&S Christmas a few years ago and haven't looked back! Mum has 3 days of it, a full house of people coming and going on Christmas Eve, half the family on Christmas Day for lunch / early dinner, everyone on Christmas Day for an evening thing and then everyone on Boxing day - loads of adults plus a load of kids and it's her Birthday on Christmas Day too so it's all just too much to do everything from scratch. It wouldn't be so bad if she kept it simple but she insists on 3 x types of meat, 3 x types of spuds and so on - mountains of food and it's hell even with the help of M&S ?

It doesn't save on cooking time as everything we order is raw rather than just in need of pre-heating but it cuts out almost all of the prep work and most importantly a lot of washing up (Mum doesn't have a dishwasher for some odd reason) and means we get to eat and then spend time together rather than one load (the men and kids) go off into the lounge for them time whilst us females do all the washing up.

Quality wise it's pretty good but then can you really go wrong with M&S?!

Waitrose are pretty good too, especially for evening food and joints of meat, their veg isn't as nice IMO.

H are I are having lunch at home this year before joining the rest of my family for dinner and we're planning to go it alone rather than rely on M&S but in truth I can see an order coming on as I just can't be bothered.

I'd recommend it, no fuss whatsoever, we did it our first christmas alone together, do book though so you get what you want

Step grandma does it every year, she doesn't do cooking, they have security guarding the turkeys!

I don't know what I'd do without M&S for Christmas dinner! We have ordered ours from them for at least 10 years and have got it down to a fine art.

We arrange the collection for as early as possible in the morning on Christmas Eve and we've never had to queue at all.

I've already placed my order for this year. Yum!
