chicken82, 25 September, 2008 at 21:45 Posted on Planning 0 5

It sounds really good to me, but i have no idea if other companies do very similar. im not really sure where to start with the gift list thing, as i hate shopping anyway!! lol!! - so i dont really want to shop around much for someone to manage my gift list!

I deffinatly want a companie that you just have to stick with their products like john lewis etc. any recomendations or experiences?

John Lewis was fab. We listed at the Oxford St store - you can register online first for speed and it was so much fun as you go round zapping things to add to the list. They also gave us a voucher for free coffee and cake! You can add to the list online and you can book your delivery slot when you do your list so you can get in there quick for a free delivery slot (prices are different for different days and you pay the charge)! I've also bought from the list on several occasions for others and as a guest it's really easy to use. They were also really helpful as H's work bought us a Wii. We were then sent an email saying as it wasn't in stock and they weren't expecting them in anytime soon, we would get vouchers for the amount. H rang them as Wiis were available in other shops - so they just credited his debit card with the amount so we could buy one elsewhere with no quibbles! If they don't have something you get vouchers for the amount. They also package really well - I highly recommend them!

My friend used Debenhams and I wasn't that impressed TBH, I had to pay something like £3.50 for delivery of the gift even though everything gets delivered at once.

We are using Debenhams and haven't had any problems with them.

You get the option of either a £50 voucher at the end (if you spend over £250 which you should pretty easily be able to reach) or free delivery.

So if the person in question opted for the £50 voucher then yeh your guests would get charged for delivery.

Personally I find Debenhams more reasonably priced for items than say John Lewis and that is why we preferred them. But otherwise you get the same as John Lewis - the zapper thing, you can manage online, you get free coffee voucher, I got a free makeover trial with them and other little freebies.

They also are helpful if they have items out of stock, they try to get them from another store for you and if they can't find it then they substitute for another item at a similar price or vouchers.

I can't believe delivery would cost £50! If you had just 20 couples attending each buying a gift (approx what my friend had) they've made £75 on delivery charges.

It seems a little unfair to me, but there you go ...

But if you went for free delivery then I dont really see how that is unfair?

maybe my brain has switched off because it knows it is a friday afternoon ...

Oh and just thought of another thing, not sure if this would be a pro or con for ppl but going back to the whole delivery issue, if the person who bought off the gift list collected the item from the store themselves then there wouldn't be a delivery charge obviously

I just think they're overcharging, because although it was a while ago and I can't remember the JL charges, their website now says "we aim to deliver everything free of charge". I resent paying it as a guest as I can guess how much they could make from charges, and I wouldn't want to put the charge onto my guests IYSWIM?

Anyway, I don't want to start a Debenhams vs JL debate (in manner of 90s high school Blur vs Oasis arguments!) so shall we stick with:

A vote from Bookgirl for John Lewis

A vote from November Bride for Debenhams
