Has anyone washed their dress?

I'm absolutely over the moon to have finally found my dress & even more over the moon to have bought it for £50 in a charity shop. Its simply perfect, but it is a bit grubby. I was going to get it dry cleaned but have been reading of huge successes with a washing machine. Its obviously a bit of a risk but has anybody tried it?

    I washed mine by hand - lukewarm water in the bath, laid the dress out as flat as I could and just kept pushing it under the water and gently moving it from side to side. Laid it flat to dry away from heat/light. It came out fine. I probably wouldn't risk machine washing. Generally, I tend to downgrade my clothes by one level when it comes to cleaning - so if it says 'dryclean only' I handwash and if it says handwash, I machine wash.

    I would speak to a dry cleaner and get professional advice, it may cost but is better than potentially ruining your perfect dress and potentially having to buy another
